    Where You Will Work

    Our global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support our operations in finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, and more. Our flexible work program allows employees to work virtually as well as come together in person when needed at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix and/or one of our site locations. Employees can work remotely from most states in the U.S., with the exception of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the position shift to in-person (office/site) work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time, so long as the position meets the established eligibility for these benefits.

    Description

    The Dir Environmental Science - PTFI will primarily focus on building necessary expertise (EQuIS, data management/evaluation and monitoring program design that aligns with Data Quality Objectives outcomes) within the environmental services groups and in coordination with other appropriate operating units, primarily for PTFI mine and smelter group operations.

    Provide leadership and support to site environmental team on environmental data collection, data management and interpretation (including technology for managing data, including existing monitoring program review/improvements/modifications to meet identified Data Quality Objectives), and interaction with PTFI community affairs and SLD to assist with determination of potential operational impacts on local populations.

    Assist in (and in some cases lead) the interpretation of heavy metal mechanistic behavior (dissolution, sorption, deposition, bioavailability, uptake, and potential toxicity) illustrated in complex environmental datasets including but not limited to surface waters, groundwaters, sediments, ambient air quality and emissions; participate in or manage special exercises including environmental/ecological risk assessments, internal and external environmental audits, evaluations of aquatic and terrestrial habitat quality.

    Provide support to and participate in internal and external operation risk review panels associated with tailings management (MMB) and surface mine closure (MCCB); support site risk register process for environmental areas.

    Interact with PTFI operations leadership on potential impact of future planned activities and expansions.

    Participate in and provide support to Jakarta and mine/smelter teams regarding regulatory conversations and initiatives related to minimizing and mitigating existing and future operational impacts

    Interact and develop relationships with expert third parties as identified by GOI regulators to identify, investigate, and determine potential alternatives to current environmental management practices.

    Identify synergies between existing Environmental Department monitoring initiatives and other PTFI Departmental initiatives.

    Work closely with counterparts including TCLW, SLD, Concentrating, Technical Services to monitor, analyze, and understand operations impacts and opportunities at PTFI.

    Perform other duties as requested

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related sciences or math.

    Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in Environmental Affairs.

    Criteria/Conditions:

    Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

    Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration. Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
