Department: Forest Resources * Forest Resources Director Department's Website: uada.edu Summary of Job Duties: The successful candidate will lead a comprehensive statewide extension program of excellence in wildlife management. Emphasis areas will include upland game bird management and nuisance/invasive wildlife issues in addition to wildlife management issues that address stakeholder needs and complement efforts of fellow natural resources extension and research team members. Candidates should desire developing educational programs for landowners, hunters, residential homeowners, natural resources professionals, county Extension agents, and 4-H youth. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to engage stakeholders effectively through an array of methods such as site visits, field tours, workshops, extension publications and online content. The incumbent will be expected to have a statewide program. Integration of county agents into extension efforts and activities, timely response to agent questions, development of effective training programs for agents, and demonstration projects to support extension efforts are essential to success. Close collaboration with extension and research colleagues, both within AFRC and across relevant disciplines and organizations, will also be essential to success. The successful candidate will be expected to publish in peer-reviewed outlets, extension publications, web-based media, and popular press. The successful candidate will also generate program support through extramural funding through various competitive sources such as state and federal grants and foundation and/or industry grants and contracts. The incumbent will join an innovative and effective team of researchers and extension specialists with strong connections to Arkansas natural resources and stakeholders. Many opportunities exist in the University of Arkansas System to work collaboratively with stakeholders as well as with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, including colleagues housed at AFRC, other UA System research and extension locations, and the UA main campus in Fayetteville. Opportunities for regional and national cooperation and collaborations are also available and encouraged. Stakeholder support for this position is strong, and the incumbent is expected to interact with producers and professional groups in programmatic development. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in a natural resources-related field, with at least one degree related to wildlife or wildlife management, is required (by date of hire). Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and have a valid driver’s license. Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required skills include the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, strong communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical information to a non-technical audience orally and in writing, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and collegial work environment. Flexibility to travel throughout the state is required; traversing forested terrain with diverse topography in a variety of climate conditions is associated with the position as well. Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include experience planning and implementing wildlife management programs with private forest landowners, state forestry or wildlife agencies, or other wildlife management practitioners, certification as a natural resource professional by The Wildlife Society or state registration board, and demonstrated knowledge of the land-grant mission and role of Extension.
