Embark on a Journey of Impactful Adventure

 

The Aquatics Camp Counselor is responsible for the conduct of Aquatic Adventure and Jr. Lifeguard Camps. Additional duties include the safety of members and program participants within all aquatic facilities as well as coordinating all aspects of teaching programs and curriculum. He/she will be responsible for carrying out and enforcing aquatic policies and procedures in compliance with statues as described by the State of Pennsylvania, the YMCA of the USA, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, lifeguard licensing agency Ellis and Associates, and YMCA insurance representatives.

What You’ll Do

 

  • Teach Ellis & Associates lifeguarding for community members, volunteers, prospective employees, and current employees.
  • Ensure that all courses as well as any course expenses have been approved by the facility. 
  • Ensure that all courses in the pool area are taught with a licensed Ellis & Associates lifeguard on duty (other than you).  
  • Ensure that every renewal student provides proof of certification that has not expired more than 45 days past the date listed certificates. 
  • At the conclusion of any course ensure that every student has demonstrated the ability to master all competencies in the curriculum. 
  • Complete all post- completion paperwork including: signatures, information on licenses/ILTP certificates, photocopies of all certificates/licenses, completed online or paper RCCMD, completed Ellis & Associates Student SCW, completed license/ILTP certificate information onto client services. 
  • Ensure that all students who successfully pass the course receive an original ILTP certificate for their records and that all written exam answer sheets are properly shredded and discarded. 
  • Make recommendations in writing to your Aquatic Supervisor for any course needs. 
  • Ensure that all equipment is ready prior to the start of the course and put away at the end of each day or end of the course into the proper storage areas. 
  • Support the facility by conducting any necessary in-service training, VAT (vigilance awareness tests) or other trainings while properly documenting them. 
  • Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You'll Need

  • Minimum of 18 years of Age 
  • Have thorough knowledge of enforcing aquatic procedures, pool rules, emergency procedures, and basic pool maintenance procedures.
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, AED, and Blood borne Pathogens 
  • Transferred Ellis & Assoc. lifeguard certification within first 30 days of employment 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to multi-task 
  • Demonstrate ability to problem solve quickly and effectively 
  • Previous office experience preferred
