Do you have a passion for wildlife conservation and a desire to actively support Operations to further our mission of protecting nature and inspiring people to care for our world? The Indianapolis Zoo is looking for a dynamic Assistant to the Vice President of Operations to actively provide a full range of administrative and hands-on duties across Operations.


What You'll Do

  • Proactively manage calendars, schedule meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, and distribute follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with various departments to draft reports and coordinate travel and conference requests.
  • Support budget tracking and vendor communications, including contract review and editing/proofreading documents.
  • Physically assist with setup and breakdown of events and provide logistical help across departments (Sales, Guest Experience, Safety, Security, Public Events).
  • Partner with Public Relations to support web updates related to department activities.
  • Serve as liaison between VP, staff, vendors, and the public.

What We're Looking For


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year of prior administrative experience.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Keyboarding speed of 50 wpm.
  • Comfortable working outdoors on occasion to assist with special events.
  • Familiarity with the Zoo's mission and enthusiasm for wildlife conservation.

Bonus Points

  • Bachelor's degree desired but not required.
  • Familiarity with Access, Project or similar software programs.
