JOB SUMMARY

 

The Bike Mechanic will oversee the repair and maintenance of NOC’s Specialized Mountain Bike rental fleet.  The Bike Mechanic will also be responsible for communicating supply needs with the Bike Program Assistant Manager to ensure smooth operations are met. Many of NOC’s Bike Mechanics will have the ability to lead guided bike trips as business needs demand. Bike Mechanics will have the option to cross-train in other adventure activities as well. Bike Mechanic applicants must be at least 18 years of age prior to their start date. 

 

Requirements

  • Repairing a variety of mountain bikes and assembling new bikes as well as daily maintenance and cleaning of rental bike fleet.
  • Communicate supplies needed to maintain the rental fleet in a timely fashion to the Bike Programs Assistant Manager. 
  • Assisting guests with technical questions regarding the appropriate bike, equipment, gear and fit
  • Promoting the adventures that NOC has to offer, and providing local area information, especially local trails and directions
  • Assisting other Adventure Center operations as needed, including helping with customer service for zip line, lake tour, and rafting guests
  • Other tasks, such as driving vehicles, repair and maintenance of gear or facilities, guest reservations and check-in, bike tour guiding, or assisting other NOC departments, as qualified and as assigned
  • Fill the bike guide role as necessary
  • Assist in maintenance of the Flint Ridge trail system


Qualifications 

 

  • Basic First Aid and CPR or higher medical certification
  • Prior biking experience
  • Ability to sustain productive work with little supervision
  • A love for the outdoors and an enjoyment for mountain biking
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely
  • Capable of providing an excellent guest experience
  • Effective at communicating with coworkers
  • Willing to take ownership
  • Comfortable working in a teamwork-based environment
  • Able to take direction well and exhibit good judgment

Preferred

  • Valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record
  • Preferably 21 years of age or older
  • Comfortable driving a 15 person van on steep and winding mountain roads and in some instances with a trailer

  

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Ability to move and lift up to 30lbs repeatedly
  • Comfortable leading mountain bike trips
  • Able to ride at least 5 miles on mild to strenuous terrain
  • Comfortable working alone in a fairly remote location
  • Comfortable working in various climates (heat, cold, wind, rain)
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist
