The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for implementing manufacturing processes to support new and existing products throughout the product life cycle, in collaboration with cross functional teams. 

This includes production tooling development and qualification, root cause analysis and resolution of product failures, and continuous improvement projects related to cost, quality, and supply chain.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the manufacturing engineering function of new and existing products
  • Functions as a primary technical liaison for the acquisition of production tooling and equipment required for manufacturing of Hardgoods and Softgoods products. Activities include:
    • Production tooling design review and approval
    • Production tooling qualification (release to pilot and production), including
      • First Article Inspection Process and execution
      • Design Verification Testing oversight
      • Production Part Approval Process and execution
    • Production tooling preventative maintenance, replacement tool, and end of life planning
    • Development of Production test fixtures, test methods, and training oversight
    • Process Capability Analysis ownership

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, Quality, CamelBak de Mexico (in-house manufacturing) and international and domestic contract supply partners to establish and maintain production specifications for raw materials, components, manufacturing processes, and finished goods. Activities include:
  • Review and input on performance and qualification testing protocols in both development and production phases
  • Inputs to DFMEA and ownership of PFMEA
  • Coordination of manufacturing quality plans and metrics
  • Support for process development in molding and assembly
  • Provide technical Design for Manufacturability and Assembly support for injection molded parts, films, and textile processing, to solve manufacturing concerns and achieve cost targets
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving engineering drawings and specifications, coordinating Bill of Materials and managing Engineering Change Order activity with manufacturers
  • Collaboration on cost reduction efforts with Operations, and product improvement initiatives with Product Management.
  • Lead root cause analysis while establishing clear and achievable quality objectives with internal and external partners.
  • Work with factory, Engineering, Product Operations, and Quality Assurance to review assembly procedures and provide input on opportunities for efficiency and reliability improvements
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Engineering to provide input into Non-Conforming Material disposition and Corrective Action Plans
  • Provide feedback to Design Engineers and Product Managers on issues with previous or similar products, factory interactions, and opportunities for improvement

  • In conjunction with Quality and Product Operations, establish and continuously improve domestic and overseas contract supplier performance. Activities / deliverables include:
    • Vendor Capability auditing
    • Material qualification process
    • In process inspection & testing criteria
    • Final inspection criteria
    • Receiving inspection criteria
    • Ongoing Process Control and Optimization audits

  • Early collaboration with NPI core teams to provide input on DFM, material selection, rapid tool strategies and construction, and participation in engineering design reviews
  • Continuous process improvement oversight and implementation with quantitative results that consistently deliver low cost, defect free products on time.

Job Requirements:
  • B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering field 
  • 4 – 7 years of practical experience and extensive technical depth with injection molded plastic parts, tooling, and manufacturing processes involved with the creation of high-volume consumer products
  • In-depth experience with a global supply chain, including contract manufacturing
  • Experience with new product development where innovation and manufacturing excellence coexist 
  • Works well in a team environment with a proven ability to coordinate activities with minimal conflict between R&D, quality, purchasing, operations, marketing, and manufacturing partners
  • Thorough understanding of statistical quality methods and inspection techniques
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Medical device manufacturing or experience in a ‘Food Contact’ industry is considered a plus

  • Able to influence and build consensus across with cross-functional teams to recognize and implement continuous improvements to manufacturing
  • Effectively manages competing priorities with a solutions-oriented approach
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic, able to work autonomously and effectively
  • Proven success managing complex projects
  • Agile, purpose-driven mindset for solving problems and managing tasks 
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines

  • Cost conscious, always looking toward process improvement and is keenly aware of bottom line and consumer needs
  • Drives to avoid risk and increase potential for success by developing design and process options
  • Proficient in CAD design, 3-D design preferred. (SolidWorks or Pro-Engineer)

Working Conditions:

Physical Endurance:
  • Computer terminal use 6 hours per day 
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds unassisted

Environment:
  • Standard Office
  • Domestic and international travel (~ 20-30% of the time over a year), including weekends and holidays, for periods up to 2 weeks at a time may be required to provide an on-site presence at suppliers to assess critical manufacturing processes, tooling, and new product manufacturing start-up/production ramps.

Pay Range:
$80,700.00 - $126,300.00
