The Camp Counselor (21+ years old, Driver) will be a driver of camp participants - to/from various parks, Kemmerling pool, field trips, etc.
Also is responsible for a variety of duties and activities associated with the interaction, supervision and care of participants in the summer day camp program. The counselor ensures the campers maintain a safe environment at all times and participate in a high-quality program.
$15/hour, approx 10-20 hours/week depending on need, June - August 2025
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Valid and current driver’s license.
- One year of experience in working with children.
- A working knowledge of age characteristics and appropriate activities for children ages 5 - 12.
- Demonstrates ability to make good judgments and be aware of immediate surroundings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated and responsible.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with residents, staff and job responsibilities under stressful conditions.
- Must be able to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner.
- CPR/First Aid certification required.
- Completion of district driving certification required.
- Enjoys working outside in warm/hot weather.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Must be energetic and possess the ability to manage a group of participants in a manner that encourages
social growth, safety and fun.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
- Responsible for the direct leadership of all daily activities and events.
- Assists in organizing and structuring large and small group activities.
- Sets up and participates in day camp activities.
- Cleans up after activities and at the end of the day.
- Ensures all personal property of the campers is carefully labeled and stored properly. As campers arrive, check all positions and store them inside the building.
- Campers and counselors will bring sack lunches and eat together. Carefully dispose of uneaten food. Lunches should never be left outdoors or in the sun. Fast food/restaurant purchases are prohibited during camp hours.
- Maintains headcounts of campers in the morning, at swim times and throughout the day.
- Supervises campers and is present on the pool deck and in the water during swim times.
- Enforces safety rules during day camp activities. Will complete accident report forms when necessary
- Notifies the Camp Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor of problems or concerns with individual campers or staff members.
- Administers first aid to staff and campers, as needed.
- Attends required meetings, training and special events as required.
- Be aware of camp medications and allergies.
- Encourages positive peer relationships within your group.
- Demonstrates a mature and professional attitude through dependability, punctuality and genuine awareness.
- Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Is courteous at all cases.
- Presents a clean, pleasant appearance and displays a positive, enthusiastic and professional manner.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
