    Position Title:

    ADVENTURE TEAM MANAGER

    Reports to:

    VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS

    Job Summary:

    The Adventure Team Manager is looked upon as an ambassador of Kohanaiki. One that perpetuates the Hawaiian Culture through hands-on teaching of the arts of the Hawaiian Waterman. Setting a positive example for staff and peers that aligns with Kohanaiki's overall goals of taking care of the land, the people, the ocean, and the Kohanaiki community.

    Job Responsibilities and Standards:

    The following description of job responsibilities and standards reflects the essential functions of the position.  This outline does not detail every aspect of the position; additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned.

    1. JOB SPECIFICS

    1. Coordinate and lead weekly and daily meetings with department assistants and leads, including but not limited to the following:

    • Morning briefing
    • One-on-one meeting with A-Team staff
    • Cultivating and maintaining healthy relationships with and among all team members

    2. Attendance of company and community meetings, including but not limited to the following:

    • Operations Meeting
    • Safety Committee
    • Public meetings (DLNR/National Park, etc.) as requested
    • One-on-one meetings with the Vice President, Operations

    3. Weekly, monthly, and yearly forecasting and budgeting, including but not limited to the following:

    • Staff
    • Programs
    • Purchasing
    • Uniforms
    • Repairs

    4. Administration of department budgeting and accounting, including but not limited to the following:

    • Purchase orders and invoicing
    • Daily account closing
    • Vendor relations
    • Coordination of Kohanaiki and community events.
    • Coordination and administration of monthly and yearly team member training

    7. Responsible for covering the following areas when needed:

    • Crosstrain Beach, Boat, Fitness
    • Inspection of all sectors, Beach and Boat

    2. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

    Physical: Must be able to complete all activities which is offered through the Adventure Team:

    • Canoe Paddling
    • Stand Up Paddle Boarding
    • Canoe Sailing
    • Canoe Fishing
    • Snorkeling
    • Free Diving
    • Surfing
    • Hiking
    • Shoreline Fishing
    • Distance Swimming
    • Biking / Cycling
    • Basic Lifeguard Skills
    • Rescue Ski Operations
    • Ability to handle basic tools and maintenance

    Mental:

    Must be able to lead in times of stress and fatigue. Must have confidence in making on-the-spot judgment calls that will reflect a positive and safe outcome when faced with weather conditions, Members' Guest requests, staffing needs, and challenges, etc...

    Must have sound historical knowledge of the land and ocean of Kohanaiki and its natural resources.

    Must have the knowledge and skill for Ocean Safety and Emergency Response.

    Must be confident when being called upon by the leadership team when faced with natural disasters (Extreme Surf, Hurricane, Tsunami, etc.) and executing the evacuation plan.

    3. QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Customer Service Responsibility
    • Ensures that the club's customer service standards are maintained at an exceptional level.
    • Presents self in a professional manner, including appearance, identification, and general communication and conduct at all times.
    • Makes a positive contribution to the work environment through presentation of a positive attitude, demonstration of cooperation and teamwork, and a constructive approach to daily events.
    • Listens effectively, responds to guests’ requests in a friendly “can-do” manner.

    22. DEPENDABILITY

    • Attendance:  Adheres to the established schedule of work hours.  Follows established procedures for early notification to the supervisor when unable to report to work. Call a manager 30 minutes before the shift starts to avoid an improper call-in.

    Punctuality:   Arrives to work at scheduled times and works until authorized to leave.

    • Attends all mandatory education/in-service programs and demonstrates understanding of responsibilities through appropriate actions.
    • Demonstrates effective communication by utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills in all interactions.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and extra hours when needed.

    6. SAFETY

    • Demonstrates adherence to the club's safe practice procedures and makes recommendations to improve safety.  Reports any unsafe work practices to the supervisor.
    • Consistently utilizes proper body mechanics in performance of responsibilities, as evidenced by supervisor’s observation and no injury to self or others due to improper work habits.
    • Follows proper reporting procedures when injured at work.  Is aware of the location of material safety data sheets and refers to them when necessary.
