    Minimum Qualifications:

    A high school diploma and two years of post high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.

    Vocational training or an Associate’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction from an acreddited school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

    Experience operating boats and trailering.

    Coursework in fisheries, wildlife, environmental, ecological or related field.

    Experience sampling freshwater fish and/or aquatic ecosystems.

    Requirements:

    Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 background check at no cost to the candidate.

    Not eligible for Telework.

    Position Overview and Responsibilities:

    We are hiring multiple seasonal, part-time positions (~20 hours/week) responsible for conducting a 20-week (January 2026 to May 2026) roving creel on Lakes George and/or Monroe in Volusia County (Incumbent may be responsible for both lakes, dependent on scheduling). Position will run till 5/31/2026. Incumbent will be expected to:

    Interview anglers on Lake George and/or Monroe (Volusia County) by asking specific questions about their catch and harvest of freshwater fish species.

    Accurately record detailed survey data while operating a boat independently and safely.

    Responsible for operating FWC equipment (ex. trucks, trailers, and motorboats) for FWC business only and in a safe and law-abiding manner.

    Surveys will be conducted in all-weather types including hot, cold, windy, and/or rainy conditions as long as conditions are not dangerous. Appropriate protective and safety gear will be furnished.

    Occasional opportunities to assist biologists with field sampling and laboratory work will also be available.

    Position is expected to work weekdays and weekend days. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of common freshwater fishes.

    Skill in boat/outboard motor operation, trailer towing with a ½ ton truck.

    Ability to effectively communicate with the public and supervisors.

    Knowledge of sampling techniques for fish, aquatic habitat and/or water quality.

    Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to sampling and evaluation of fish populations and aquatic habitats.
