    Position Overview and Responsibilities:

    Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.

    Administration: Utilizes computers & related software including all Microsoft Office products and the State of Florida proprietary programs including but not limited to MFMP, People First, Reserve America, FLEET, etc.  Prepares budget requests, provides for effective expenditures, tracks facility, equipment, materials, parts and supply inventories.  Prepares vehicles reports, maintenance logs and maintenance schedules.  Studies technical publications, specifications and manuals.  Performs other related duties as required.

    Maintenance: Performs maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Identifies equipment and facility maintenance needs via daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of all park areas of responsibility.  Set and maintain maintenance schedules and prioritizes the routine, preventive and corrective actions to meet or exceed Florida Park Service standards.  Support, train and oversee assigned staff to accomplish the parks maintenance needs in an efficient manner.  Equipment maintenance, repair and overhauls may include but are not limited to: electric, gas and diesel engines, motors, generators, pumps, compressors, saws, drills, presses, torches, welders, grinders, landscape equipment, mowers, sprayers, chainsaws, power tools pressure washers, UTV’s, ATV’s, golf carts, fire suppression equipment, trailers, vehicles, carburetors, cooling systems, power train, transmission, clutch, brake and suspension systems, trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, airboats and other specialized equipment.  Facility maintenance repair and construction may include but are not limited to; boardwalks, sidewalks, trails, buildings, HVAC equipment, fences, fire lines, camp sites, electrical service, valves, sinks, drain fields, sewers, lift stations, public drinking water wells and other sanitary and plumbing fixtures.

    Park Protection: Supports the park staff through the maintenance program for all visitor and employee safety and protection activities including, but not limited to, researches and prepares action plans, conducts safety inspections of parks equipment and facilities oversees and trains others in safe use of equipment and maintains safety records.  Response to emergency situations.

    Resource Management:  Supports the park staff through the maintenance program for all natural and cultural resource management activities including, but not limited to, imperiled species management, exotic and nuisance species control, mechanical and prescribed fire habitat restoration efforts, erosion control, hydrological restoration and historical preservation.

    Visitor Services: Supports the park staff through the maintenance program for visitor service activities including, but not limited to, interpretation, education, special events & public use of the park.  Meets public, interprets resources, facilities, services, resolves visitor complaints and provides for good public relations.  Works cooperatively with a variety of governmental agencies, media groups, Citizens Support Organizations, and other community service groups.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    The principles & techniques of the skilled building trades & mechanical repair work

    Safety procedures required in maintenance & repair work

    Good public relations.

    Using tools & equipment

    Training others in using tools & equipment

    Installation & repair work in plumbing which includes but is not limited to valves, sinks, sewers, lift stations & wells

    Installation & repair work in carpentry which includes but is not limited to roofing, trim, framing, flooring, doors & windows

    Installation & repair work in electrical which includes but is not limited to electrical wiring, appliances & electrical repairs to structures

    Installation & repair work in masonry which includes but is not limited to brick, cement & block work

    Application & repair in painting

    Installation, maintenance & repair of electric motors, generators & other mechanical equipment

    Supervising & training others to perform preventive maintenance

    Troubleshooting & resolving mechanical, fuel & electrical problems in diesel & gasoline-powered equipment

    Utilizing acetylene torches & welders to perform necessary metal fabrication & repairs

    The performance of carpentry repairs to buildings & boardwalks/walkways

    The utilization of Microsoft Office suite products

    ABILITY TO:

    Train & schedule staff

    Obtain & schedule materials & contractors to perform a variety of skilled trade functions

    Read blueprints & electronics schematics

    Take accurate measurements

    Identify & resolve repair needs of buildings & equipment

    Efficiently research & effectively implement new or innovative methods of repair & maintenance procedures

    Follow verbal & written instructions

    Oversee maintenance projects as directed

    Prioritize & ensure proper completion of work

    Work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, & evenings

    Communicate effectively verbally & in writing

    Establish & maintain effective working relationships with others

    Prepare maintenance logs & related correspondence

    Obtain, within 12 months of hire, & maintain current first aid, CPR, blood borne pathogen certifications

    Perform extended physical labor outdoors in sometimes harsh environmental conditions

    Act as Logistical Staff during prescribed burns, which may require fire shelter training & the wearing off PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A valid Driver’s License

    Successfully complete Ranger Academy

    Position of Special Trust Requirement:

    This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

    One of Florida's first state parks, the Civilian Conservation Corps developed the 600‐acre site during the 1930s. The extraordinary artistry of the CCC is still evident today. Gold Head is located on rolling sandhills on the north central ridge of Florida with one of the few remaining examples of an old‐growth stand of longleaf pines. A steep head ravine with seepage springs forms Gold Head Branch and bisects the park. Marshes, lakes and scrub provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife.

    This is a largely independent position which needs a self-motivated park service professional whose main responsibility will be for maintenance and repairs to park building and facilities and well as vehicle and equipment as it relates to park operations, visitor services, and resource management activities for Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park. The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays and in all types of weather.
