This Director of Development position earns a competitive salary of $82,953.73 - $109,005/year, depending on experience and qualifications. ABOUT ARCHULETA COUNTY:
Pagosa Springs is the county seat for Archuleta County and is located in the Colorado Sunbelt, just 35 miles north of the New Mexico border and along the western slope of the Continental Divide. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF OUR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT:
As our Director of Development, you coordinate, and directs the County's planning efforts, including strategic planning, community comprehensive planning, and long-range land use planning, from current to long-range projects as technical planner, land use compliance officer, zoning administrator, floodplain manager and economic development facilitator. The principal function is to act as a community liaison to assist, advise, answer inquiries and administer the rules and regulations of the County as well as other applicable local regulations and State laws with a primary emphasis on land use policy, community visioning, and implementation of adopted plans. The position requires a broad working knowledge of practical and lawful application of rules and regulations to disseminate proper advice to potential applicants. The position also provides service delivery to both external and internal customers and principally seeks to achieve a mutually agreeable and beneficial outcome or solution.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT:
Bachelor's degree in planning, public administration, urban or regional planning or closely related field. At least five years of experience in the planning & development profession, and three to four years of supervisory experience is preferred. Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures for local government planning and development
Thorough knowledge of zoning, land use law, transportation, and economic development Understanding of basic environmental engineering concepts such as drainage, simple hydrology, and erosion Familiarity with techniques for the effective preparation and presentation of technical reports Ability to maintain knowledge of pertinent state and local laws, codes, and regulations including any recent changes
Understanding of economic development principles, including how to attract new businesses as well as retain existing businesses
- Budgeting skills
Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, internet applications, econometric and transportation modeling, database management, and GIS Strong leadership skills
