    About the Role:

As our Engineering Manager at the Grand Timber Lodge, you will be the cornerstone of this mission, ensuring the resort is not only beautiful and functional but a safe, comfortable haven where memories are made. You will be the steward of our physical property, leading a dedicated engineering team with purpose, fostering a culture of proactive care, and ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence and safety.

    This role is perfect for a hands-on leader who is equal parts strategist, technician, and mentor. You will take ownership of the entire resort ecosystem, from preventative maintenance programs and capital improvement planning to team development and budget management, always acting with our 'End of the Line' philosophy to ensure every issue is resolved and every system runs at peak performance.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic leadership and direction to Engineering Managers and team leads, fostering a high-performance, results-driven culture across the entire department.

    Promote a culture of proactivity by encouraging teams to identify solutions, mentoring decision-making, and providing guidance on critical issues.

    • Establish and oversee training strategies to ensure consistent staff development, operational excellence, and alignment with organizational goals.
    • Manage the full scope of staff supervision including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, reviewing, and performance management in accordance with company operating procedures.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and regular coaching sessions, guiding Managers in goal setting to drive continuous improvement.
    • Lead the resolution of complex employee relations issues, providing guidance and escalating organizational matters as needed.Maintain accurate performance, attendance, and HR compliance records to ensure operational integrity.

    Partner with the Assistant Engineering Manager and Chief Engineering Tech to develop and implement systems that maximize department efficiency.

    • Oversee comprehensive preventative maintenance programs, ensuring timely completion of tasks and that all amenities and units meet quality standards.

    Utilize the Hotel Service Optimization System (HotSOS) to track KPIs including ticket response time, completion time, and preventative maintenance orders daily.

    • Monitor and analyze water, gas, and electricity consumption across all facilities using utility tracking software to identify cost-saving opportunities and usage trends.
    • Coordinate with construction teams and external contractors on major projects, maintaining clear communication across departments throughout planning and execution.
    • Maintain organized, safe work environments with proper inventory tracking systems for supplies, tools, and equipment.

    Respond to all fire alarm incidents and building evacuations as first responder; participate in required safety and building inspections.

    • Monitor department budget and expenses, approve invoices, and conduct monthly financial analyses to ensure fiscal responsibility.
    • Develop and maintain the fiscal year budget, providing variance reporting and financial projections.
    • Manage vendor relationships, procurement processes, and cost negotiations for projects and supplies, verifying deliveries and ensuring competitive pricing.
    • Develop and execute reserve studies and capital improvement plans in alignment with property needs.

    Keep detailed records of completed projects, maintenance history, and warranty information. Serve as the "End of the Line" for guest and owner concerns, resolving complex issues and ensuring every situation is fully addressed. Partner with HOA representatives as needed, attending meetings and assisting with owner communications.

    • Ensure department meets Net Promoter Score (NPS) goals and that owner feedback is addressed promptly.
    • Handle staff scheduling, timesheet approvals, time-off requests, and workplace injury documentation in coordination with Human Resources.
    • Ensure all work practices comply with OSHA guidelines and that the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) binder is current and accessible.

    Serve as Manager on Duty during rotating night shifts, conducting property walks and ensuring staff accountability.

    • Develop, communicate, and reinforce department-wide policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with corporate objectives.
    • Participate in the Crisis Management Team (CMT) and Emergency Response plans as required.

    Operate utility task vehicles (UTV) safely and as needed. Greet everyone with enthusiasm by offering warm welcomes, professional interactions, and genuine care. Treat everyone with respect through good manners, thoughtful communication, and professionalism in every interaction. Make every interaction positive by listening with empathy, seeking solutions, and creating uplifting experiences.

    Requirements:

    Minimum two-year college or technical school degree; OR a combination of five years of education and related experience. Minimum of three years of related experience in facilities management, engineering, or building maintenance. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop teams, fostering accountability and high performance.

    Experience managing staff schedules, conducting performance evaluations, and handling employee relations.:

    Ability to delegate effectively and hold team members accountable for quality and productivity. Strong understanding of building systems, preventative maintenance protocols, and facility operations. Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, fire safety procedures, and emergency response protocols.

    Ability to interpret technical reports, inspection results, and operational data to inform strategic decisions. Capacity to identify operational inefficiencies and implement sustainable process improvements. Familiarity with budget development, financial analysis, and expense management principles. Understanding of vendor management, procurement processes, and contract negotiation.

    Ability to maintain accurate records, track inventory, and manage department documentation. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) with a minimum of one year of hands-on use. Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, scanner, phone, calculator).

    Ability to navigate the internet for research purposes and utilize company software programs. Must be comfortable using mobile devices for work-related applications. Ability to speak, read, write, and interpret English fluently. Ability to read and interpret business correspondence, technical journals, safety rules, site drawings, and blueprints (mechanical and structural).

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, guests, owners, and vendors. Valid US driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license within one year of accepting the position. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces occasionally.

    Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision with good depth perception. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Previous supervisory or management experience in a hospitality or resort environment.

    Experience managing a team of 10+ employees.:

    Hands-on experience with HVAC and mechanical systems. Knowledge of carpentry, construction, and general building trades. Familiarity with pool and hot tub water chemistry. Existing Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license. Additional safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, CPR/First Aid).

    Experience developing and executing capital improvement plans and reserve studies.:

    Familiarity with work order management systems (e.g., HotSOS or similar).

    Experience monitoring and analyzing utility consumption (water, gas, electricity) to identify cost savings.:

    Knowledge of mountain resort environment challenges (snow removal, winterization, high-altitude systems). Ability to type efficiently and accurately by touch.
