Summary Description:
BB&N is seeking a Swim Instructor/Life Guard for Summer Camp 2026. Primary responsibilities include supervising and guarding all waterfront activities and safely guiding campers in their personal growth, daily living skills, and daily activities.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Swim Instructor/Life Guard is expected to be committed to the following:
- Participate in developing and implementing high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for campers within BB&N’s mission.
- Supervise campers to ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and overall well-being.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. Ensuring the site's cleanliness and adhering to all safety guidelines associated with the camp program.
- Positively representing the camp when interacting with parents or community members. Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, dietary restrictions/allergies, and daily attendance.
- Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Work one-on-one with campers.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements, Skills, and Competencies:
The ideal candidate should have some experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field. Candidates are also expected to be professional and to have a high level of comfort enforcing water safety procedures with campers and staff.
In addition, the candidate:
- Must be 17 years of age
- Must be available for training sessions on the nights of June 15th, 16th, and 17th.
- Is required to have Education and First AID, CPR, and BLF certifications.
- Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
- Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Assessing camper swimming abilities and delivering individualized swim instruction to teach water safety and to improve basic strokes
Some physical requirements of a general Counselor position could be endurance, including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs.
Salary: $22.00 per hour
