Strategy & Operations Lead – Cambly
About Cambly: Our mission is to bring high-quality English education to every English learner in the world at the touch of a button. Think of us as the Airbnb that matches English students with English tutors. Come help us build the world’s largest English learning marketplace and school.:
As our Strategy & Operations Lead, you’ll be a core leader in shaping Cambly’s next phase of global growth. You’ll partner closely with senior leadership to tackle our biggest, most ambiguous strategic challenges, run lean but impactful experiments, and drive execution across the business. This is a hands-on role: you’ll own end-to-end initiatives that unlock new markets, improve unit economics, and build scalable systems — while staying scrappy, resourceful, and deeply data-driven.
Responsibilities:
Translate broad company vision and global ambition into clear, testable strategic hypotheses and structured frameworks. Spot and size high-leverage growth levers across markets, customer segments, and product lines through rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Lead cross-functional pilots and experiments (Product, Sales, Marketing, Tutor and Student Ops, Engineering) to validate new business opportunities
Partner with Product, Sales, Marketing, Tutor and Student Ops and Engineering to shape roadmaps, secure investment, and drive accountability for end-to-end delivery. Own and deeply understand the company’s most critical metrics, surfacing insights, risks, and opportunities that shape executive decision-making.
- Present data‑driven insights and strategic recommendations to executives, influencing high-stakes decisions.
Act as a multiplier: coach teams on strategic thinking, operational excellence, success measurement, and problem-solving frameworks.
Qualifications:
12+ years of experience in highly analytical, strategic, or cross-functional roles (e.g., consulting, product strategy, business operations, analytics, finance), with demonstrated impact at scale.
- Demonstrated track record of leading and executing cross-functional, high-impact initiatives from strategy through launch, including establishing ongoing mechanisms to ensure sustained performance.
Superb strategic problem-solving ability: you can navigate ambiguity, build first-principles frameworks, and drive clarity on even the messiest business issues. Deep analytical chops: you’re fluent in building models, estimating TAM, defining KPIs, and analyzing complex datasets (SQL and/or Excel required).
Excellent communicator: you distill complex analyses into clear, compelling narratives for executives, product leaders, and cross-functional teams. Strong product and business intuition, especially in marketplace or two-sided business models: you understand how engagement, retention, and monetization levers play together.
High resourcefulness and bias toward action: you don’t wait for perfect information — you move fast, learn, and adapt. Extremely fast learner, intellectually curious, and comfortable diving into new domains, markets, or geographies. Comfortable working in a lean startup environment: you thrive with limited resources, tight timelines, and high autonomy.
