    Job Description

    The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for campers, ensuring their well-being while adhering to the Camp CCC schedule. They lead and supervise engaging, age-appropriate activities that encourage positive social interactions, teamwork, and creativity. In addition, Summer Camp Counselors will maintain a high level of customer service, professionalism, creativity, and organizational skills throughout each day of camp, while complying with all health and safety procedures, including pool safety.

    HOURS:

    • Seasonal role – ranging from mid-May – August 10th.
    • Operational Monday-Thursday.
    • Must be available 20-30 hours a week.

    EXPECTATIONS:

    • Flexible with scheduling while accommodating Summer Camp needs.
    • Team-player who ensures quality service and a positive camp environment.
    • Adhere to all club property rules.
    • Establish and maintain great relationships with the CCC Campers, their parents, and the Youth Activities team.
    • Convey a professional image through a positive attitude and proper attire.
    • Assist other departments when necessary, including youth events, family events, and club child watch.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Supervise and actively engage campers throughout daily activities, including swim periods.
    • Confidently monitor campers in the pool and aquatic areas to ensure safety at all times.
    • Serve as an in-water presence during designated swim times as needed.
    • Enforce all camp and pool safety rules and emergency procedures.
    • Knowledgeable in club policies and procedures related to the youth department and safety protocols, including first aid, and proactively works to prevent accidents.
    • Assists in planning and setting up age-appropriate activities and events for children and families, including managing meals and snacks.
    • Greets children and parents by name in a professional and friendly manner, practicing open communication regarding their needs and preferences during drop-off and pick-up.
    • Leads and supervises play and activities during camp, ensuring camper safety while moving about the club property, and assists with setup and cleanup of camp activities, including lunch.
    • Interacts with children in a friendly manner, engaging them in games, teaching skills, and resolving disputes when necessary through appropriate methods like verbal redirection or time-outs.
    • Handles and properly stores camp and childcare materials, ensuring cleanliness and safety of the work area during opening and closing duties.
    • Recommends new ideas for toys, programs, supplies, and promotions to enhance camp activities.
    • Exhibits proper phone etiquette and maintains a safe, clean, and professional environment at all times.
    • Attends all department staff meetings, trainings, and performs other duties as assigned by the Youth Activities Director and Summer Camp Director.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Valid First Aid and Infant/Child CPR Certifications or the ability to become certified prior to the beginning of camp.
    • Confident swimmer with the ability to comfortably and safely monitor campers in a pool setting.
    • Ability to remain alert and attentive during all aquatic activities.
    • Six months experience working with groups of children ages 6-months – 12 years.
    • Effective communication skills with fluency in English.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to swim competently and remain in the water for extended periods as needed.
    • Ability to actively supervise campers outdoors in summer conditions.
    • Ability to lift, move, and assist children as necessary.
    • Ability to work outside during the hot summer season.
    • Capable of providing basic hygiene services for young children.
    • Proficient at providing a supportive and caring environment, while supervising children.
    • Must have a positive, upbeat, friendly attitude and enjoy providing five-star customer service.
    • Must be a team player who can develop strong and positive working relationships with all staff.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to climb stairs, walk and stand for extended periods, and perform actions such as reaching, bending, lifting, carrying, and stooping.
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. daily.
    • Regularly practice hand hygiene through frequent hand washing.
    • Must be able to swim proficiently.
