About the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center:
The Grand Junction Regional Communication Center (GJRCC) serves multiple highly-respected law enforcement and fire/EMS agencies that use state-of-the-art equipment and modern tactical response techniques to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Mesa County, Colorado.
You’ll be part of a team of professionals who work to improve the lives of those in their community. We are an IAED ACE-accredited center, and our training program is APCO-certified through the Agency Training Program Certification, and we work with national and state professional associations to equip us to serve

What You'll Do:
As the first contact point with the public via the 911 and non-emergent telephone and text lines, the 911 Dispatcher must obtain information from callers who are requesting police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency services.
Typical duties include:
- Answering emergent and non-emergent calls for service while simultaneously
recording information.
- Calming, negotiating, advising, and otherwise communicating with the caller
to obtain the necessary information to determine both the nature of the call as well as what resources to send.
- Coordinating and relaying information and assistance requests to the
appropriate law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical service agency.

This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.
What We're Looking For:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Type 3,000 kph (50 wpm).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good moral character, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including day, swing, graveyard, holidays,
and weekends as assigned.
- Ability to work required overtime when necessary.
- Ability to pass a background investigation that meets all local, State, and
Federal requirements.

depending on recency
- Hit and run accident conviction
- Being under or having been under driving restraint, cancelation, suspension
or revocation of driving privileges in Colorado or any other state

Recruitment Timeline:
*Please note that each step is contingent upon successful completion of the prior step. This is a tentative timeline that is subject to change.
Oral board interviews will start the week of March 24, 2026, the last week of oral board interviews will be the week of April 16, 2026.
Oral board interview weeks include, suitability interviews and testing, and Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA).
Executive interview dates tentatively scheduled for:
- June 23, 2026
- All final offers for the August 2026 Academy, will be tentatively extended no
later than July 17, 2026 (earlier applicants could receive final offers prior to this date.)
- 911 Dispatcher Academy is scheduled to begin the week of August 3, 2026.

The Grand Junction Police Department delivers a range of essential services, including uniformed patrol, investigations, police training, crime prevention, crime laboratory operations, community relations, a school resource program, and records management and analysis.
