Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible for the development and implementation of various recreation programs within the Recreation division. Assists in marketing and promoting of recreation, scheduling of facilities, billing and receipts for the facility, performing receptionist and administrative support, and performing related duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions of the Job:
- Assists the Recreation Manager in planning, organizing, observing, and directing a variety of recreation activities in the recreation program area.
- Assists with training and participates in the selection of recreation staff, contract workers, and volunteers in city-wide activities such as sports leagues, recreational programming, and special events.
- Evaluates program effectiveness and service quality to ensure outcomes are met.
- Advises and assists individuals and groups on related recreational issues.
Exercises responsibility for the maintenance of equipment and materials.
- Assists in preparing and monitoring the Recreational programming budget.
- Assists in developing and maintaining positive work relationships with other governmental agencies and groups, supporting team play whenever possible.
Fosters partnerships with both internal and external customers, including the school district, community education, athletic associations, area businesses, and other local organizations.
- Designs, proposes, plans, organizes, and directs recreational activities, programs, initiatives, and events for youth, teens, and adults in the community.
- Processes recurring transaction fees for automatic checking/savings withdrawal and credit cards.
- Assists with scheduling and reservations of recreation facilities.
- Monitors and submits daily usage reports. Maintains accurate balance of activity fees. Processes monthly Health Fitness discounts for members by applying credit to their account and invoicing members that did not meet required visits per month. Works with all financial programs and entities in support of office operations.
- Assists with promotion of recreation programs and events.
- Maintains discipline, order, and crowd control at programming sites.
Attends staff meetings and conferences.
- Provides assessments, plans, training, and participation assistance to participants with disabilities.
- Performs physical demands and work environment requirements for this position.
Actively participates in the decision-making process supporting City goals and objectives.

Attends regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary. Effectively and respectfully communicates and interacts with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.

Associates with agents and departments from other cities and states to learn about and maintain professionalism.
- Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent to achieve the goals and objectives of the Recreation Department.
Equipment Used:
This position uses a variety of equipment typical to a traditional office setting. Such equipment may include, but is not limited to computers, printers, telephones, fax machines, copy machines cash register, security camera, and credit card reader.
Requirements:
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of recreation operations and program areas.
- Enhanced knowledge of the principles and practices of facility planning, programming, and operations.
Ability to acquire First Aid/CPR/AED certifications within six months. Ability to maintain order in a public facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Recreation, Parks & Leisure Studies, Administration or related field and experience in a Recreation facility or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Parks & Leisure Studies, Administration or related field. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the recreation field. At least two (2) years of working experience with a computer, including Microsoft Office products.
Conditions of Employment:
Must possess a valid Minnesota Driver’s License or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment. Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background examination. Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
Work Schedule:
The typical work hours for this position are a minimum of forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday during normal work hours; evenings and weekends are common. Other hours may be required as assigned.

Activities that occur infrequently, up to 60 minutes are: bending/stooping; climbing staircases; and reaching below shoulder level with both shoulders at the same time. This position will require the ability to drive an automobile.
