The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a Part-Time Summer Camp Counselor - Nature Center to assist with the lessons and activities of the day-to-day operations of the summer camp programs at the Delores Fenwick Nature Center. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A PART-TIME SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR - NATURE CENTER Job Summary
The purpose of this class within the organization is to assist in the day to day instruction of the Day Camp Program at the Delores Fenwick Nature Center for the Parks and Recreation Department. Deliver program activities and lessons that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper's age and abilities. Assist with overall camp operation at the direction of the Natural Resources Division.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Essential Functions:
Regular and timely attendance at work.
- Maintain a positive atmosphere for children through camp activities.
- Responsible for leading or assisting with the teaching of activities.
Actively participate in all program areas as assigned. Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior. Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship. Additional Duties Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to supervisor.
- Provide assistance and information to campers and parents regarding programs, activities, and events.
Arrange equipment, supplies, chairs, and tables in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled, games and programs.
- Demonstrate proper methods of equipment storage and cleaning to safeguard facilities and equipment.
- Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
- Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred; or a minimum of one (1) summer of experience in a camp setting or teaching/classroom experience preferred. Some experience working with children ages 6-14, required. Prefers some experience or knowledge of science, relating to biology, environmental science, or nature education.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
