    PARKS COORDINATOR:

    Department: Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Pay Grade: 511 FLSA Status: Exempt Job Code: R852

    ----------------------------------------:

    JOB SUMMARY:

    This position coordinates and supervises construction, maintenance, and repair work for city parks, facilities, grounds, and related equipment. Duties include prioritizing and scheduling work, supervising crews, reviewing and approving completed projects, and preparing and maintaining operational and administrative records.

    ----------------------------------------:

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Plans, coordinates, and supervises daily operations, staff, and activities involving construction, maintenance, repair, and landscaping of parks, grounds, special events, facilities, and related equipment.
    • Performs inspections, identifies maintenance and repair needs, receives work assignments, establishes priorities, develops preventive maintenance schedules, and prepares weekly and daily operational plans.
    • Assigns work, obtains and issues required materials, equipment, and supplies, provides direction and instruction to crews, and conducts staff meetings regarding planned operations and projects.
    • Oversees subordinate staff and contractors, serves as project manager, reviews work in progress and upon completion, enforces policies and safety standards, and approves completed work.
    • Supervises and evaluates assigned staff, including addressing employee concerns, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing performance appraisals.
    • Reviews and interprets design drawings, site plans, construction specifications, engineering plans, maps, and plats; prepares specifications and design plans for assigned projects, including irrigation systems.
    • Prepares time, material, and cost estimates for construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
    • Prepares budget information, monitors purchasing and expenditures, and ensures compliance with approved budget.
    • Prepares administrative forms, production reports, vehicle maintenance reports, and other program documentation; maintains operational files and records; submits required reports to the Park Service Manager.
    • Supervises maintenance of assigned tools and equipment; schedules and coordinates preventive maintenance and repairs; ensures proper storage, cleaning, and security; prepares requisitions and purchase orders.
    • Prepares specifications for required equipment, materials, and services; assists with procurement, bid invitations, and bid evaluations.
    • Coordinates activities and maintains effective working relationships with vendors, contractors, architects, and staff from other departments.
    • Provides public information, interprets department policies, and discusses city policies, contract requirements, and project-related issues with contractors.
    • Works with department staff to identify special maintenance needs and to plan for special events.
    • Operates computers and standard office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other systems.
    • Operates light and heavy maintenance equipment, hand tools, and power tools as needed during emergencies, peak workloads, or staffing shortages.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Associate’s degree in a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising facilities maintenance and/or work involving supervision, project coordination, construction, landscaping, general building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical systems, custodial maintenance, or personal computer operations.
    • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be acceptable.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Playground Safety Inspector certification preferred.
    • Valid Georgia driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, materials, safety requirements, and tools used in construction, maintenance, and repair operations.
    • Knowledge of applicable city, county, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and regulations.
    • Knowledge of departmental administrative policies, procedures, supervisory practices, and budgeting principles.
    • Skill in operating hand tools, power tools, and light, medium, and heavy maintenance equipment.
    • Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise construction, maintenance, and repair operations.
    • Ability to accurately estimate costs for various construction and maintenance projects.
    • Ability to review and interpret design drawings, site plans, construction specifications, engineering plans, maps, and plats.
    • Ability to allocate and maintain equipment, materials, and supplies, and to supervise staff.
    • Ability to classify, prioritize, and analyze data, apply established standards, and identify potential impacts and relationships.
    • Ability to supervise subordinate supervisors.
    • Ability to operate and control equipment, machinery, tools, and materials needed to perform essential duties.
    • Ability to use a wide range of reference, descriptive, and advisory data.
    • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including decimals, percentages, and fractions, and to interpret graphs.
    • Ability to apply leadership principles, including motivation, incentive, and supervisory techniques, and to exercise independent judgment in problem-solving.
    • Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in evaluating information and making decisions, including in situations involving subjective criteria.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Work is classified as light. It may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing 12–20 pounds. Work may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation and requires the ability to distinguish colors, sounds, odors, depth, texture, and visual cues. Verbal communication is required.

    Work is regularly performed in adverse environmental conditions, including dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, machinery, or toxic agents.
