    Role Summary Facilities Technicians work with the Rocky Mountain Program Team to ensure that the buildings, property, grounds, and equipment of COBS are constructed, repaired, and maintained to support a safe and efficient working environment for staff and students. The primary focus of the position is to support the upkeep and maintenance of facilities and equipment within the Rocky Mountain Program (RMP) and Southwest program (SWP). This includes, but is not limited to, the Leadville Mountain Center (LMC), the Moab base, and remote locations including the Champion sites. This is a hands-on position that requires strong problem-solving skills, personal accountability, and the ability to manage work independently in dynamic and remote environments.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Take ownership of identifying, troubleshooting, and addressing maintenance needs and facility improvements, performing preventative maintenance and hands-on repairs across equipment, buildings, and grounds, and escalating issues as appropriate.
    • Maintain accurate inventory counts of equipment, building materials, and shop consumables.
    • Support seasonal basecamp openings and closings and assist with construction and improvement projects as assigned.
    • Perform all work in a manner that prioritizes safety, accountability, and a positive workplace culture.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Professional Attributes Technical & Experience-Based

    • Experience as a handyperson or in a skilled trade such as construction, repair, or maintenance.
    • Experience driving manual vehicles with a clean driving record; heavy equipment and/or large vehicle experience preferred.
    • Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and CMMS experience preferred.

    • Highly detail-oriented with strong troubleshooting skills; able to identify, diagnose, and resolve issues before they escalate.
    • Strong organizational, time-management, and self-management skills; able to prioritize work and follow through with minimal supervision.

    • Willingness and ability to learn new systems and processes; open to feedback and growth.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small, fast-moving team.

    • Maintains accountability and excellence in all tasks, demonstrating integrity and reliability

    Work Environment & Working Conditions This position is based primarily at the Leadville basecamp, with regular travel to other COBS properties including the Moab base and remote program sites. Work is performed in a combination of indoor, outdoor, shop, and field-based environments, often in remote, high-altitude, and variable conditions.

    Facilities Technicians should be comfortable working in environments where weather, terrain, and program needs can shift priorities. Physical & Environmental Requirements · Ability to bend, lift, kneel, crawl, and safely carry or lift up to 75 lbs. · Ability to work in and around active construction and maintenance environments, including underground utilities, confined spaces, work at heights, and above-ground structures.

    · Ability to work outdoors in all seasons, including cold, snow, wind, heat, and other inclement weather conditions. · Ability to work at a computer approximately 5–10% of the time for documentation, communication, and work order management.

    • Schedule & Operational Expectations
    • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), year-round position, typically scheduled five out of seven days.
    • Weekend, holiday, and variable schedule work is required based on program operations and seasonal needs.
    • Participation in an emergency on-call rotation is required.
    • Travel between sites is expected, including work at the Leadville basecamp, Moab base, and other remote COBS properties.

    This role is best suited for individuals who are physically capable, adaptable, safety-focused, and comfortable taking ownership of work in remote mountain and desert environments with limited immediate supervision.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Full Time position-average of 40 hours per week. Salary Range: $17-$20 per hour depending on experience. Optional on-site housing available. ProDeal eligible.

    Benefits eligibility for medical, dental, and vision insurance, where COBS pays a significant amount toward healthcare premiums and provides employer-paid short- and long-term disability coverage and basic life insurance.:

    20 days of Paid Time Off that accrues throughout the first year, with an additional day of PTO added with consecutive years of service. 56 hours of paid Sick Leave. 401K eligibility available after one year of service.
