This is for YMCA Camp being held at Sabold Elementary School in Springfield. Our camp runs from 7:15am-6pm Monday through Friday. Shifts include:
- 7am-3pm with a break
- 8am-4pm with a break
- 10am-6pm with a break; and
- 3pm-6pm
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITES INLUDE:
- Planning, organizing, and leading age-appropriate games, activities, and group events
- Actively supervising campers to ensure their safety and well-being at all times
- Assisting and implementing daily in-house themed activities, assisting with field trips, and supporting swimming days
- Encouraging teamwork, positive behavior, and inclusion among campers
- Communicating effectively with fellow staff
- Serving as a positive role model by demonstrating enthusiasm, patience, and professionalism
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises a group of children and possess ever present knowledge of whereabouts and safety of each child in assigned group.
- Implements and follows program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Completes accident/incident reports as necessary.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Reinforce children’s actions in a positive manner to promote safety and health self-images.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with campers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Works in cooperation with other staff as a member of the YMCA team.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
- Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Experience working with children ages 6-12 preferred.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to engage groups of children in active play and structured activities
- Energetic, dependable, and flexible in a fast-paced environment
- Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED, and First Aid.
- Completion of required trainings.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
- Able to lift and carry 15-50 lbs.
- Must be able to see, hear, direct, and assist members, guests, and staff to ensure safety.
