Position Purpose The Electrical Lineworker program prepares students for entry-level employment in the utility industry by combining foundational safety practices, technical theory, and hands-on field training. Trainees begin with core skills, including tool usage, ladder and scaffold safety, and a review of construction math. Instruction emphasizes jobsite hazard recognition, the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective devices, and safe work practices in high-voltage environments. Students gain a strong grounding in electrical concepts such as conductors, insulators, voltage, Ohm’s Law, and circuit analysis, reinforced by applied training in electrical test equipment, bonding, grounding, and schematic interpretation.

    • Building on this foundation, trainees develop the knowledge and skills required to climb and work on utility poles and towers, inspect and use climbing gear, and perform pole-top rescue procedures. CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen training are included, along with instruction in the physical and mental demands of working at height. Students also gain proficiency with insulated hand tools, ladders, and specialty equipment common to the trade.

As the program advances, students are trained in field operations essential to linework, including aerial framing, pole setting, rigging, and the use of service vehicles such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and cranes. Instruction extends to trenching and excavation safety, knot tying, communication methods, and emergency preparedness. Through a blend of classroom instruction, applied labs, and field exercises, graduates leave the program with the confidence and competencies needed to safely support the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution systems, and to progress into advanced technical training and apprenticeships.

Essential Duties (not all-inclusive) Teach assigned courses in the Lineman Training Program, incorporating real-world applications, safety standards, and industry best practices.

    • Maintain accurate academic and attendance records in compliance with institutional policies.
    • Ensure classroom, lab, and climbing equipment are safe, well-maintained, and aligned with current industry standards.

Foster partnerships with industry to enhance program relevance, internships, and job placement opportunities.
