    FLEET INVENTORY SPECIALIST:

    DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS:

    Kenosha County is looking for a full-time Fleet Inventory Specialist as the newest member of the Kenosha County Highway Division team. This important role performs a variety of skilled inventory control functions to maintain appropriate levels of in-stock inventory, procurement of specialty parts, maintenance of fuel levels and systems, accurate reporting and audits, use of asset reporting systems, and works closely with the Shop Superintendent to maintain fleet operation within budgetary guidelines.

    Under general supervision of the Highway Shop Superintendent, the Fleet Inventory Specialist will work independently, following department policies and procedures.     2026 Hiring Range: $31.81 - $36.15 per hour PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL NOT BE FILLED BEFORE JANUARY 2026 Work Schedule 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, four days a week Required to work overtime as needed Position Summary and Job Duties Primarily responsible for the inventory, safeguarding, tracking, and ordering of parts, supplies, and tools required for efficient maintenance and repair of County-owned vehicles and equipment within the Highway Division

    Work closely with shop mechanics to research and order parts required for maintenance and repair of County-owned equipment

    • Maintain online accounts for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts procurement and research
    • Maintain list of approved vendors to purchase parts, supplies, and tools in the best interest of Kenosha County based on cost, availability, and delivery timeframe
    • Handle shipping and receiving tasks, including verifying shipments for accuracy; maintain and order stock parts as necessary

    Safely operate forklift and loader to properly handle materials being received, issued, stocked, and transported

    • Process and track parts returns, warranties, and core exchanges
    • Monitor inventory usage and set appropriate stock levels including removal of obsolete items, reduce unnecessary inventory, and maintain sufficient stock levels
    • Assist Shop Superintendent in licensing, vehicle registration, and maintaining vehicle and equipment inventory in asset reporting system
    • Conduct frequent partial audits of physical inventory, as well as year-end procedures
    • Monitor fuel levels, order fuel when necessary, and update weekly fuel report.
    • Perform maintenance of fuel system, schedule required inspections, and maintain certificate

    Answer radio and phone calls and relay information to appropriate parties

    • Assist in work order delegation to shop crew in the absence of Shop Superintendent
    • Assist in the preparation of all auction functions, including but not limited to document preparation, pelletizing, coordinating with auction company, and coordinating pick up of items

    May be required to report to work during emergency operations including snow and ice removal, natural disaster recovery, or other circumstances to assist with inventory management and dispatch May be required to perform additional tasks per Shop Superintendent Success Factors Knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures related to acquisition and disposal of parts, supplies, equipment, and materials in a governmental setting

    Knowledge of heavy equipment parts, equipment, and materials utilized in a mechanic shop servicing the various vehicles and equipment maintained by Kenosha County Knowledge of computer-based systems related to procurement, tracking, and invoicing of parts, supplies, and other specialty shop functions

    Knowledge of Microsoft Office systems including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other computer systems Knowledge of OSHA Rules and Regulations pertaining to hazardous material programs Skill in organization and attention to detail Skill in Fleet shop workflow, repair orders, and asset tracking Skill in utilization of OEM literature to proficiently order correct parts

    Skill in computer-based inventory research, tracking, reporting, ordering, and financial reporting Skill in professional communication Skill in analyzing and interpreting reports related to inventory audits Skill in management and operation of fleet fuel requirements and systems Skill in maintaining detailed and accurate records and navigating high demand operations

    Ability to effectively understand and take direction from supervisors and team members to acquire necessary parts, supplies, and equipment Ability to learn and adopt new technologies utilized in a governmental office environment for communication and inventory tracking, reporting, reporting, ordering, and financial reporting

    Ability to perform accurate calculations by use of calculator and computer-aided formulas Ability to work in a timely and efficient manner Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment Job Requirements, Education, Training and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent required

    2 years of experience in fleet inventory operations including warehousing operations and procurement activities Licenses or Certifications Must possess Class “A” fuel operator license. If not current license holder, must obtain within 6 months of hire, at expense of Kenosha County Highway Division. Must possess, at minimum, a valid Class D driver’s license.

    Must possess Class A or B CDL with air brake and manual transmission endorsements. If not a current CDL holder, must obtain Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) by first day of hire, and obtain a Class A or B CDL with air brake and manual transmission endorsements within one year of hire, with reimbursement per Kenosha County policy.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    At least 5 years of experience in fleet inventory operations

    The position requires a full range of physical movement – bending, reaching, lifting, etc. and heavy physical demands such as exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and between 50-100 pounds of force regularly. Work involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, turning, and reaching, bending at the waist. Indoor and outdoor work environment with exposure to weather extremes.

    Must be able to work outside in any weather conditions, including temperature extremes.
