    Camp dates:

    6/15/2026 - 8/14/2026 (You must commit to working the entirety of your assigned camp)

    Working Hours:

    8:00 AM - 4:00 PM:

    Wil-O-Way Underwood, 10602 Underwood Parkway, Wauwatosa, WI OR Wil-O-Way Grant, 207 S. Lake Drive, South Milwaukee, WI

    The Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting participants with medication administration, personal cares, providing quality recreation-based services, and maintaining a safe, supportive and comfortable setting.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES (FUNCTIONS) include the following:

    • Interacts with participants in a respectful, age-appropriate, and culturally appropriate manner by honoring participant preferences and requests, in conjunction with behavior plans and care information.
    • Intentionally support the development of camper character by modeling and promoting independence, confidence, and self-advocacy through daily interactions, activities, and structured programming.
    • Ensures participants are provided with proper medication administration based on physician's directive.
    • Works cooperatively with programming team to provide cares to participants with ADLs (toileting, bathing, ambulating, transfers, feeding, changing clothes, etc.).
    • Reports all possible cases of illness to Camp Site Lead and aids participants that become ill.
    • Cleans up spills/bodily fluids using appropriate infection control procedures.
    • Ensures the safety of each participant by monitoring activities, maintaining a sanitary, clutter-free environment, pool set-up, monitoring and maintenance (as applicable) and participating in safety training and emergency drills.
    • Reports suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation of participants immediately per program and agency policies and procedures.
    • Prepares, serves, and oversees feeding activities including tube feeding) for daily snacks and lunches.
    • Maintains program areas, supplies, and equipment ensuring that they are clean/disinfected stocked/replenished, and in good working order daily.
    • Employs assistive equipment and practices throughout the day when transporting, lifting, and working with participants.
    • Works cooperatively with programming team to provide interesting and stimulating program activities that are appropriate for most participants, which include recreation and educational enrichment.
    • Provides individualized assistance to participants in programs as needed.
    • Acts as an appropriate role model for participants.
    • Encourages participants to socialize, communicate, and fulfill needs independently.
    • Redirects participants through positive actions.
    • Provides quality specialized services while being mindful of resource usage.
    • Stays abreast of emergency procedures and/or updates for each program scenario to ensure awareness of protocols in the event of an emergency.
    • Participates in assigned meetings, professional development, and training as required.
    • Provides interesting and stimulating program activities that are appropriate for most participants, which includes planning the daily schedule of activities in advance, and completing recordkeeping as assigned (attendance, activity schedule, etc.).

    *NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES*:

    • Performs other duties (or functions) as assigned.
    • Serves as back-up to various program staff, by providing coverage of all work teams in the absence of the regular staff member, and a summary of events upon their return.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Required:

    • TB test required.
    • A Criminal Background Check must meet the requirements of the State of WI licensure for day programming.
    • Experience providing ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), including toileting, ambulating, transfers, feeding, etc).

    Preferred:

    • Current CPR, First Aid, CPI, and/or Universal Precautions training/license preferred.
    • Experience working with individuals with disabilities in a health care or social service setting preferred.
    • On the Wisconsin Community-Based Care and Treatment Training Registry for Medication Administration preferred.
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with proof of insurance preferred.

    Specialized Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

    • Ability to work effectively with other agency staff, family members of those served and the community at large.
    • Able to exercise appropriate personal care techniques.

    • Ability to exercise safe lifting techniques.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, participants, family and community members, verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to problem-solve issues.
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
    • Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks.
    • Must be honest, reliable, and able to meet deadlines.
    • Must exercise sound judgment in making decisions and act accordingly.

    EQUIPMENT USED/MACHINERY REQUIRED TO OPERATE:

    Includes, but is not limited to:

    • Adaptive physical education equipment
    • Standard medical equipment used in rehabilitation or adult daycare centers
    • Various types of mechanical lifts
    • Telephone
    • Copier
    • Computer
    • Fax

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
    • Frequently requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching.
    • Perform 1 to 2 person-transfers from chair to toilet and back; from floor to chair and back.
    • May be required to assist individuals in and out of vehicles.
    • Will be exposed to loud/noisy environments.
    • Exposure to outdoor elements.
