Job Summary:
Under the immediate supervision of the Aquatic and Sailing Camp Director, the Aquatic and Sailing Camp Counselor is responsible for performing a variety of duties to prepare the Beach boats for the campers' demands. The Counselor also assists with the daily aquatic and sailing camp operations. This part-time seasonal position typically requires working up to 30 hours per week. The Aquatic and Sailing Camp Counselor is expected to be available during the entire camp season from early June to early August, Monday –Friday, 8.30 am – 4:00 pm.
Qualifications:
At least 16 years old or older. 1-2 years of sailing and aquatics background from an accredited sailing program. CPR/AED/First Aid Certification upon hire. Must possess a valid IL Boating Licenses and have a good driving record. Must pass the Glencoe Park District Boat Training. All employees must pass a StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification class, which the Glencoe Park District will facilitate through preseason training and cover.
All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.
Required Knowledge:
Knowledge of public recreation philosophy with strong communication skills Proven technical expertise related to the role
Required Skills:
Dependable, flexible, and safety-focused Able to follow rules and instructions Strong basic literacy and organizational skills Advanced sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding skills
Experience teaching groups of children (5–15 participants):
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for performing various duties to prepare for programming, including organizing supplies, lesson planning, and contacting program participants.
- Responsible for the safety of all program participants through the effective execution of agency
- Ensure students and campers are engaged, learn new skills, and have an enjoyable experience in beach programs and classes.
Complete paperwork as needed, such as progress sheets, attendance logs, sign-in/sign-out sheets, daily checklists, etc.
- Provide the highest level of customer service and positive professional interaction with
Sailing Camp should include:
Basic Sailing Basic Rowing and boat retrieval Knot tying Basic boat maintenance Emphasis on sportsmanship and respectful behavior Protocol for the rigging and de-rigging of boats Introduction to racing tactics Introduction to racing rules
Hours:
Due to the nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected
The Facility Manager and Aquatic and Sailing Camp Director might also direct the Aquatic and Sailing Camp Counselor to perform other assignments not included in this job description, which is subject to periodic review and revision.

Pay Scale:
This is a seasonal part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $16 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $16 per hour to $18 per hour.
Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the (Hiring Manager), or the (Dept. Head).
