Join the Greater Burlington YMCA as a Camp Counselor at Y BTV Summer Camp and help create a safe and engaging environment for children ages 5 to 10! This role is active and engaging—you’ll be on your feet, participating in activities, and ensuring camper safety. Candidates should be comfortable supervising children in various environments, including outdoor spaces and swimming areas.

• Schedule and Location: Starting June 15th, 2026, Monday- Friday 8:30-3:00, at 298 College Street, Burlington Vermont (The Y Facility)

What You’ll Do:

• Lead and participate in all camp activities, including swimming.
• Assist in planning and supervising daily camp programs.
• Maintain visual and auditory supervision of campers at all times.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

Accurately track attendance and conduct regular head counts. Supervise walking field trips off site with campers and staff.

• Communicate effectively with campers, families, and staff.

Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and positive environment. Serve as a role model by demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and YMCA Core Values.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Experience working with children ages 5 to 10.:

CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Strong communication and teamwork skills. Previous experience in a camp, recreational, or educational setting preferred.

Ability to effectively supervise and ensure the safety of children by maintaining visual and auditory awareness in various environments, including classrooms, outdoor play areas, and other program spaces.

Ability to lift, carry, or support children up to 35 pounds as needed for care, safety, and engagement. Ability to engage in active participation in all aspects of the program, including assisting with activities such as swimming and gym lessons. This may involve frequent movement, such as kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and standing for extended periods.

Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to the physical and emotional needs of children, including in emergency situations. Ability to supervise campers when on a walk or at an off site location.
