Haverford Township Parks and Recreation is looking for high energy, always smiling Summer Camp Counselors to help supervise our campers by actively leading and participating in all camp activities while providing a safe and fun environment. Camp Counselors will report to their assigned camp location in the Township (more details on locations will be discussed during interviews). Site Leaders and the Summer Supervisors of Parks and Recreation will be available to help lead and assist the Camp Counselors while on site. Some assignments may be conducted under general supervision.
Essential Functions:
- Supervision of campers - be a leader! Keep the campers involved, engaged, and excited! Ensure a safe and fun environment for everyone.
- Engage with the children - have FUN! Get to know the campers and help them along the way. They will follow your lead!
- Teach or assist with camp activities - take the lead! Got an activity you love or a skill that you are great at that you want to share with the campers? Let us know. We would love for you to share your skills with our campers and help other Camp Counselors do the same!
- Work effectively with Co-Counselors - teamwork makes the dream work! Having a fun, cohesive, and engaged team will make our camps fun and our campers excited to come back every day!
- Respond to emergency situations - be responsible! You are a leader! You will need to be aware and use your training to ensure that our campers and teams are safe and that you respond to emergency situations the way you were trained to respond!
Physical Demands:
- Regularly working outside in varying weather conditions. Summertime equals sunny, hot days with the occasional rainy day!
- Our campers are energetic and excited kids and teens ready for lots of fun and learning! The Camp Counselor position involves a great deal of standing, walking, running, bending, squatting, sitting, kneeling, climbing, reaching, twisting, and lifting. Crafts and activities will require fine motor skills.

Required Orientation: May 20 Required Training: June 20 Weeks of Camp: June 22nd to July 31st
Qualifications for Junior Camp Counselors:
- Must be at least 16 years old by June 22nd or a rising 11th or 12th grader
- Must be able to work independently but also work as part of a team
- Must demonstrate initiative and have strong leadership skills
- Must be able to perform manual labor under varying weather conditions
- Must be able to take and comprehend oral and written instructions
- Must adhere to high ethical standards and personal integrity
- Should be able to manage multiple responsibilities
- Must complete/pass PA Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Criminal Background Check (includes fingerprinting) prior to employment!
The camps we are hiring for can be found below. Hours will be based on which camp you are assigned.
- Extended Care Program: 15-17.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, hours 8:45am-12:00pm or 12:00pm-3:15pm
- Playgrounds: 15-17.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, hours 8:45am-12:00pm or 12:00pm-3:15pm
- Preschool-age Camp: 18-30 hours per week, Monday-Friday, hours vary between 8:15am-2:15pm
- Adventure/Nature Camp: 20-30 hours per week, Monday-Friday, hours vary between 8:15am-2:15pm
Qualifications for Senior Camp Counselors:
- Must be at least 18 years old by June 22nd or a high school graduate
- Must be able to work independently but also work as part of a team
- Must demonstrate initiative and have strong leadership skills
- Must be able to perform manual labor under varying weather conditions
- Must be able to take and comprehend oral and written instructions
- Must adhere to high ethical standards and personal integrity

- Playgrounds: 30-36 hours per week, Monday-Friday, hours 8:30am-3:15pm
- Preschool-age Camp: 18-30 hours per week, Monday-Friday, hours vary between 8:15am-2:15pm
- Adventure/Nature Camp: 20-30 hours per week, Monday-Friday, hours vary between 8:15am-2:15pm
