    KEN-CARYL RANCH MASTER ASSOCIATION JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Seasonal Park Ranger – Patrol & Compliance

    • Reports To: KCRMA Open Space Director

    Starting Pay Range: $21.00 – $23.00 per hour, paid on a biweekly basis Employment Classification: Seasonal Full-Time, Non-Exempt May – August 2026; 40 hours/week (16 weeks)

    • SCHEDULE: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Wednesday and Thursday

    12:30pm – 9:00pm, Friday through Sunday

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under supervision of the Patrol and Compliance Park Ranger, the Seasonal Park Ranger will be responsible for community patrol, surveillance and protection of native open space, parks and recreation facilities. This is not a law-enforcement position; however, rangers enforce local open space and parks rules and regulations. Where problems arise outside the scope of his/her abilities and jurisdiction, the employee will call in and work with local law-enforcement agencies.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Patrol by foot/bike/truck a 45+ mile trail system including parks/recreational facilities and providing visitor safety and resource protection, education, interpretation and ensure compliance with Open Space & Parks Rules and Regulations.     • Provide information to the public about wildlife, open space features, and other resources contained in the 4,800+ acre native open space at Ken-Caryl Ranch.

    Sick/Injured/Dead Wildlife: Investigate injured deer, remove road-killed deer from private property/streets/open space, will coordinate with other agencies to remove smaller mammals. Ability to deal effectively with unpleasant, belligerent, or hostile individuals in person and over the telephone. General open space and facilities maintenance.

    • Prepare a variety of written reports.

    Requirements:

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

    A bachelor’s degree, or course work leading to a degree, in a natural resources, criminal justice or related field is preferred. Previous experience as a park ranger, or similar position, is highly preferred. Other Park or natural resources experience will be considered.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic work setting. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities along with robust relationship-building skills are necessary. Basic computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.

    • Build positive and supportive interactions with both the public and team members.
    • Communicate effectively with the public and colleagues, offering a friendly and helpful approach.
    • Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to handle challenging situations when needed.

    Must be able to work in all-weather elements. Must have current, valid Colorado Driver’s License and must be insurable with KCRMA’s insurance carrier. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job. Be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.

    WORK AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to outside patrol of trail system and office environment. Constant standing and walking over uneven terrain in all weather conditions to patrol trails; occasional running to address emergency situations. Moderate physical activity will be required frequently.

    Work will occasionally be required outdoors in all weather conditions. Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions, including, but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment. Work in an office environment. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer, copier and scanner.

    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, supplies, office machinery, etc. Have ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, bend, lift, squat, push, pull, crawl, jump, slide, climb, pinch, grip, reach overhead, reach away from body, and perform repetitive motions.
