The Madison Area YMCA is hiring 2026 Sports Camp Counselors for our summer camp program serving school-aged children.
Camp Dates:
June 22, 2026, through August 27, 2026
What You'll Do
As a Sports Camp Counselor, you'll help provide a safe, active, and positive camp experience focused on teamwork, skill development, and good sportsmanship by:
- Leading age-appropriate sports and physical activities
- Teaching basic skills, rules, and techniques across a variety of sports
- Supervising campers during games and drills
- Encourage confidence, teamwork, and respect for others
- Communicate clearly with campers, families, and coworkers
This Job is for You if You:
- Enjoy working with elementary-aged children
- Have interest or background in sports, recreation, or physical education
- Can lead groups and clearing explain rules and expectations
- Value safety, fairness, and good sportsmanship
- Want to build leadership skills and serve as a positive role model
- Are patient, dependable, and energetic
- Are 18 years or older
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Have prior experience working with youth (camp or youth sports programs preferred)
What All Staff Receive:
- Competitive pay
- Up to 40 hours per week (schedule varies)
- Up to 40 hours paid, mandatory trainings (June 15-19, 2026)
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications provided
- Eligibility for a 10-week stay incentive
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat in excess of 90F, high humidity, and rain.
- Ability to be in water/pool for extended periods of time.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, walking, and hiking on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
- Comfortable administering first aid and exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases is possible.

This includes attending required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors, and adhering to procedures that minimize risk. Supervisors are also responsible for providing oversight, feedback, and accountability to ensure staff and volunteers follow these standards.
