SUMMER DAY CAMP COUNSELOR (SEASONAL):
- Reports To: HEAD COUNSELOR, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Post Closes: ONCE FILLED FSLA Status: NON-EXEMPT
SUMMARY:
Summer Camp Counselors support daily camp activities, student engagement, and program quality. Counselors serve as positive, energetic mentors who help create a warm and inclusive environment. This role involves planning and leading group events, monitoring campers, responding to incidents such as behavioral problems or accidents, logging events and maintaining records, and communicating camper participation and concerns with parents and staff.
This role is ideal for college students, paraprofessionals, instructional aides, substitute teachers, and youth workers seeking summer employment. Candidates should enjoy working with children, collaborating with a team, and contributing to a meaningful summer experience.

Requirements:
17 years of age or older
Experience working with children strongly preferred:
Reliable transportation Ability to work a flexible schedule (shifts between 7:00am–5:30pm, Monday–Friday) Must pass a background check Positive attitude, reliability, and strong communication skills Ability to support behavior expectations in a respectful, calm manner Willingness to learn and collaborate with peers and leadership
First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire date
Technology:
Must have a device where company apps can be downloaded Must have your own working email address
Physical Demands:
Ability to easily move through all program areas and actively interact with patrons Remain alert with no lapses in consciousness
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES include the following:
- Plan and coordinate camp activities independently and with camp staff under the guidance of the Educational Program Coordinator
Actively engage with students during games, activities, workshops, and field trips
- Maintain continuous supervision of campers; act immediately and appropriately in the event of an emergency
Spot hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents Control and report unruly behavior; address behavior concerns calmly and respectfully
- Support activity setup, cleanup, and transitions
- Maintain accurate records of activities and incidents as required
- Communicate positively with children, coworkers, and families
Model respect, kindness, and inclusivity
- Help facilitate daily camp structure and routines
- Perform other related duties as required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or working towards high school diploma or G.E.D. Preferred Backgrounds (not required) Paraprofessionals / teacher's aides
Education majors:
Childcare or recreation experience
WORK CONDITIONS:
Internal and external environments; variety of weather conditions to include humidity, rain, and heat.
WORK SCHEDULE subject to change:
Monday–Friday, 8-hour shift between 7:00am–5:30pm. The schedule is subject to change. Full program runs June 1, 2026, through August 7, 2026
