MARYVILLE COLLEGE STAFF POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Position Title: Groundskeeper Department: Facilities Title of Immediate Supervisor: Grounds Superintendent Funded Term / Work Cycle: 12-Month/Full-Time Expected Daily Work Hours: Monday–Friday Expected Weekly Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Starting Salary Expectations: $15/ HOUR

SUMMARY:
- Maintains the grounds of campus. This position is designated as an essential employee for inclement weather events and is required to report for duty in adverse weather conditions when the College is closed, during delayed starts, and when the College releases early. The position may be subject to work after hours on weekdays, weekends, and holidays as required.
Education and Experience required to ensure success in this position:
Education required:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience required:
1+ years’ experience in lawn care, preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prunes shrubs and trees as instructed to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs Sprays lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides as instructed Cleans grounds and removes litter Shovels snow from walks and driveways Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup
- Plants, waters, and fertilizes grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts Sharpens items such as lawn mower blades, edging tools, chainsaws, and shears Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedge shears, and other powered and non-powered tools Other: Other duties may be assigned as necessary to assist the College in achieving its goals and maintaining a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty, and students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in operating hand tools and industrial-sized lawn care equipment Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers and understand instructions Ability to work well with others Regular attendance is required
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements:
Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds. This position frequently requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Physical endurance for working outdoors for long periods of time.
Environmental conditions:
Regularly works in outside weather conditions that may include freezing temperatures and extreme heat. Frequently exposed to vibration. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and in high, precarious places and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:
Both large and hand-held equipment such as leaf blowers, industrial vacuums, lawn mowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, etc. College vehicles (cars, trucks, vans) College golf carts
