Position Summary: Summer Earth Adventures Camp Counselors Extended Season safely implement Aullwood Audubon’s summer day camp programs for children ages 5-10. This position is needed for approximately 10 weeks over the course of the summer which will include one week of intensive training, eight weeks of camp and one partial week of camp breakdown.

    • Training will occur from June 1st through 5th.

    Camp is scheduled from June 8th through August 7th for 8 hours per day; staff are expected to work the following week to help break down camp. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week. Summer Camp staff are expected to be available for the duration of camp with no extended vacations. Length of Assignment: June 1, 2026 – August 12, 2026 Hours: 40 per week This role is on-site at Aullwood Center and Farm in Dayton, OH.

    Description:

    Essential Functions Executing each weeklong program session, assisting in writing/executing lesson plans, setting and cleaning up each day’s activities including but not limited to helping to lead outdoor discovery hikes, conducting pond explorations, and facilitating nature crafts and games. Keeping track of campers during the day and maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere for campers.

    • Helping campers resolve conflicts.

    Elevating camper and staffing issues for resolution to the Senior Environmental Educator/ Camp Lead in a timely manner.

    • Assist with camper Before and After care, including interacting with youth, playing games, etc. Maintains and fosters culture of safety

    working with children; initiating group activities, playing games, babysitting, child minding, etc. Able to clearly communicate and give instructions to campers and adults.

    Willing to follow Aullwood/Audubon safety procedures and enforce those safety precautions as necessary. Strong work ethic, self-motivated, enthusiasm for youth and teaching. Must be comfortable around bodies of water. Have a flexible and adaptable personality. Able to work productively in a team environment as well as independently.

    Able to show respect for others of all ages, races, gender, etc., as well as respect for nature and the outdoors. Able to work in all weather conditions, including being outdoors for extended periods of time in heat and humidity Able to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Must have transportation to and from work.

    Able to traverse trails, hills, and uneven terrain. Able to remain in stationary or active positions, move items or equipment, and navigate various work environments for varying lengths of time, with or without reasonable accommodation. Willing to learn CPR and First Aid. Willing to follow Audubon’s policies, including inputting payroll information by required deadlines.
