Counselors create a joyful, safe, and engaging environment where campers feel supported, included, and excited to learn and play. This position will lead activities, build meaningful relationships with campers, collaborate closely with fellow counselors and leadership staff, and help each day run smoothly—from high-energy games to calm transitions.

Responsibilities:

Camper Care & Engagement Actively supervise campers to ensure a safe, supportive, and fun environment at all times Facilitate smooth transitions throughout the day, including check-in, check-out, and moving between activities Engage campers in indoor and outdoor activities while maintaining awareness of the entire group Build positive relationships and respond to camper’s needs with patience and understanding, recognizing them as individuals Support campers through challenges and help resolve conflicts with patience and care Professionalism Learn and follow camp policies, procedures, and staff expectations Arrive on time, ready to engage, and dressed appropriately for camp Communication & Teamwork Communicate professionally and calmly with campers, families, and staff Share important updates, observations, concerns, or messages from families or staff with the leadership team and the director of SummerWorks Learn and use the names of children, families, and fellow staff to foster a welcoming environment Additional

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Work comfortably and effectively in outdoor environments, including direct sunlight and varying temperatures Supervise pool activities, including entering the pool to actively support and monitor campers Move easily around classrooms, the Rowland Hall McCarthey Campus, and off-site field trip locations, to support various activities Contribute in an organized and productive manner as a team member of the SummerWorks program Lift up to 10 lbs of boxes to prepare/clean up from activities Communicate appropriately and effectively with constituents, including campers, families, and colleagues Additional Information This is a seasonal, non-exempt position.

The hourly rate ranges between $12.50 and $17.50 per hour, based on

experience:

SummerWorks has mandatory paid staff training on June 4, 5, and 6, 2026. Our camp season begins on Monday, June 8, 2026, and ends on Friday, August 7, 2026; camp staff work 8:10 am–4 pm daily. There will be no camp on June 19, July 3, and July 24. CPR and first aid certification is required. SummerWorks offers CPR and first aid training prior to the start of camp.
