    Job Description

    MEET THE SMART SAFETY COMPANY:

At Safe Fleet our name says it all. We make fleet vehicles – and everyone in and around them – safer. Our fleet safety platform brings together best-in-class products, ground-breaking technology, and a 100-year history of fleet know-how and innovation to solve the world’s biggest fleet safety problems.

Our core value is safety. Without safety first, efficiency and productivity are not possible. This is true for our products, our culture, and our relationship with our community. Our vision is to reduce preventable deaths and injuries in and around fleet vehicles with a goal of ZERO accidents. We are re-defining what safety means for fleets of every type – from school buses to waste collection trucks, firefighting to utility vehicles, police cruisers to delivery vans.

Whether you work in our Charlotte plant to build life-saving stop arms for school buses, or design advanced camera vision products in our Vancouver office, forge valves and high-quality nozzles to fight fires, or dream up new ways to protect fleet operators in our Corporate HQ in Kansas City, you’ll contribute to our goal to keep everyone safe.

We are a fast-growing manufacturing, service, and technology company with over 1700 employees in over 15 locations across Canada and the US. We’re looking for motivated self-starters with innovative thinking to join our team and help us achieve our growth and performance goals. Sound like you?

    JOB SUMMARY:

This role is responsible for developing clear, user-friendly documentation that supports products, services, and internal processes. It involves close collaboration with engineering, product management, and customer support teams to ensure accuracy and usability. The position requires field work during prototype builds and installations, a flexible schedule to accommodate project timelines, and occasional night work. A background in mechanical or manufacturing environments—preferably automotive—is considered an asset.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop and maintain high-quality documentation including user manuals, installation guides, API documentation, release notes, and training materials.

Translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for various audiences, including law enforcement, IT professionals, and end-users.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.
    • Create visual aids such as diagrams, flowcharts, and screenshots to support written content.
    • Manage documentation lifecycle: drafting, editing, reviewing, publishing, and updating content as needed.
    • Ensure all documentation complies with company standards, branding, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CJIS, FedRAMP).
    • Assist in the development of content for proposals, presentations, and marketing collateral when needed.
    • Provide on-site support during prototype builds and installations to capture accurate processes and develop field-ready documentation.

Adapt to flexible schedules, including occasional night work, to align with installation and testing timelines.

    Requirements:

    REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in public safety, law enforcement, or technology sectors. Proficiency with documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, Microsoft Word, and/or Markdown.

Proficiency with Adobe Suite including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, etc. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and version control tools (e.g., Git). Strong understanding of technical concepts such as APIs, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and software integrations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability and willingness to work in the field and travel as needed. Flexible schedule to accommodate prototype and installation timelines, including occasional night work.

Background in mechanical or manufacturing environments; automotive experience is highly desirable, as is hands-on familiarity with installation processes or prototype development. Knowledge of CJIS, NIJ, or other compliance standards and/or experience with video surveillance, evidence management systems, or public safety technologies would be an asset.

New York Salary Range $80,000 - $100,000 USD The final offer will be determined based on a combination of factors including skills, experience, and alignment with the role’s responsibilities. Candidates at the lower end of the range will meet the core qualifications and demonstrate strong potential to grow within the role.

Mid-range offers reflect a solid match with the role’s technical and collaborative requirements. Offers at the top of the range are reserved for candidates who bring exceptional qualifications, specialized expertise, or unique value that significantly exceeds the baseline expectations
