    Description:

    The Summer Camp Lead supports the planning and daily operations of Science Museum Oklahoma’s summer camp programs and camp extended care. This role assists the Assistant Director of Education with staff supervision, program logistics and ensuring a high-quality camp experience for participants. The Summer Camp Lead helps manage camp schedules, materials, safety procedures, and communication while providing leadership and support to camp educators.

    This position is a seasonal, temporary position. This position's end work date is August 7. If employee's time at the museum is in good standing, they would be eligible for rehire next summer.

    • Assist with coordinating the daily operations of summer camps and camp extended care, including schedules and program logistics
    • Provide day-to-day leadership and support to camp educators, assisting with problem-solving, classroom management, and camper needs
    • Monitor camp activities to ensure programs maintain high standards for safety, engagement, and educational quality.
    • Coordinate the preparation, organization, and distribution of materials and supplies needed for camp programming
    • Support implementation of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and behavior management practices
    • Assist with camper check-in, check-out, and extended care logistics to ensure smooth daily transitions
    • Help maintain accurate records related to attendance, incident reports, and program documentation
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Education to identify operational improvements and address emerging needs during the camp season
    • Support additional museum initiatives as assigned to spark curiosity and promote discovery learning experience

    Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age

    Experience working with children or youth in educational, recreational, or camp settings:

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Current enrollment in a degree program in education, science, museum studies, or a related field Previous experience in a camp leadership, lead counselor, or program coordination role

    Experience supervising or mentoring staff or volunteers:

    Availability Requirements Flexible daily schedule between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Professionally represent Science Museum Oklahoma and its mission Ability to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all guests feel welcome to experiment and create. Must work well with children and be comfortable engaging audiences in a fun and energetic way, including being silly and animated in front of both kids and adults.

    Strong background in STEM education, particularly hands-on, inquiry-based learning approaches. Excellent communication skills, including proficient writing and editing abilities. Approachable, kind, and confident demeanor, with a willingness to receive and implement feedback. Independent and proactive work ethic, with the ability to identify and complete tasks with minimal direction, while also thriving in a cooperative team environment.

    Practical understanding of safety protocols and best practices for conducting science demonstrations. Working Conditions This position works in an active and busy children’s museum setting. Work involves frequent sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time. Requires working on a computer for long periods of time

    Work involves crawling, climbing and crouching Work may include occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 40 pounds.     Working Relationships This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may indirectly supervise Program Team Members and Apprentices. This position must maintain positive working relationships with management, employees, applicants, vendors, and the general public.
