Description:
This Assistant Technician position will be performing difficult and moderately complex engineering duties in a construction materials testing laboratory in our Materials Testing & Exploration Section. This position will be working with a small team in Freeport performing testing of Asphalt Mixtures, Pavement, and Aggregate at the MaineDOT Regional Laboratory.
Supervision may be exercised over subordinate semi-skilled personnel performing testing activities. Work is performed under general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor. Typical
responsibilities:
may include: Performing high quality testing of soils and aggregate in precise accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and MaineDOT procedures as trained and directed.
- Performing routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory testing equipment.
Stand for long hours, regularly handling and manipulating heavy material samples without assistance. Working safely with power tools, testing equipment, and when handling samples, being sure to follow all safety
requirements:
Preference will be given to candidates certified by NETTCP as a Soils & Aggregate Laboratory Technician and/or Asphalt Plant Technician with a working knowledge of MaineDOT quality assurance testing. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor.. To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following
experience:
Three (3) years of
experience:
in engineering or a related technical field–OR- an Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and one (1) year of
experience:
in engineering.
