of Work The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) is designated as an emergency response Division and is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, resource management and environmental
education:
to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The NCFS provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina. The District Equipment Supervisor manages the shop area, supervises and schedules maintenance and repair of fire control equipment. Position maintains parts inventory & provides technical oversight for work performed in the shop.
Will be responsible for determining the priority and the extent of major repair work to be done on various light and heavy equipment. Light equipment includes pumps, generators, chainsaws, UTVs and other small engines. These repairs may be made in fire line or field environment or in shop.
- Maintains and repairs heavy equipment such as dozers, graders, dump trucks, farm tractors and road tractors.
Also, trouble shoots complex mechanical problems including diesel engines, gasoline engines, transmissions, final drives, hydraulics, brakes and undercarriage problems. Position will need to use and comprehend repair manuals, schematics, computers, databases and other computer programs. May also provide welding, torch cutting and metal fabrication as needed.
District Equipment Supervisor is responsible for state inspections on vehicles and adhering to OSHA
requirements:
Environmental exposures are adverse weather, forest pests, hunters, intense heat, dust and smoke. Work hours are typically 8-5, Mon-Fri. Some work functions require evening, holiday and/or weekend work. Wildfire & disaster/emergency response functions require readiness 24/7. May be a member of incident management team, requiring response to incidents away from home and for extended periods of time.
