    Position Summary

    Flight 93 National Memorial is looking for a creative, self-motivated and independent professional to join the interpretive education team of park rangers, memorial partners and volunteers. This is an opportunity to be part of a unique and challenging historic interpretation experience, focusing on the

    terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 and more specifically, the Flight 93 story. The work experience will provide opportunities to contribute as a team member within the interpretation and education program on specific projects.

    About the Fellowship: Richard J. Guadagno was a passenger on United Flight 93 on:

    September 11, 2001. His love for animals and the outdoors led him to a career as a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, dedicating his life to protecting the environment. After graduating from Rutgers University, he worked for seventeen years in refuges in New Jersey, Delaware, Oregon, and finally,

    Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge in northern California where he was a Project Manager. In Richard’s memory, the Guadagno family sponsors one exceptional candidate to continue their career aspirations through the Richard J. Guadagno Conservation Fellow experience at Flight 93 National Memorial and

    another Conservation Fellow at Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge in California annually.

    M-F, 40 hours a week

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    The Richard J. Guadagno Fellow Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Provide visitor education and orientation at the Memorial Plaza, Learning

    Center, Visitor Center, Tower of Voices and along trails through formal and informal interactions; Research, prepare and present educational and interpretive programs for visitors on a variety of topics; Contribute as a vital team member for annual special events, such as the September 11 Memorial Observance, and school-based guided field trips and other programming throughout

    the season; Develop educational videos, infographics and other content-based projects for the memorial distance learning program and website; Updating educational resource materials available through the memorial website; Other opportunities may include formatting and publishing new educational and/or

    interpretive materials to support programming to serve all ages.

    Marginal Duties

    Depending on candidate’s strengths and experiences there may be the opportunity to work with education staff on supplemental materials for teachers. The nature of this work also requires clerical work such as typing, data collection for statistical purposes, recording and reporting visitor use statistics, traffic

    counts, and occasional filing to ensure accurate records for the site are kept.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Valid drivers license
    • Strong oral and written communication skills experience with public speaking

    and a desire to learn the art of interpretation

    • The intensity and immediacy of the subject matter and high volume of visitors

    requires strong listening skills, the ability to multitask, and to professionally and compassionately communicate difficult subject matter with diverse audiences and manage large groups

    • The position will require long periods of time outdoors and standing/walking

    for extended periods of time.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of social media platforms, web authorship, and video production

    skills.

    40 per week

    Living Accommodations

    Housing provided onsite.

    Compensation:

    • $600 weekly Living Allowance
    • $1100 one-time round-trip Travel Allowance
    • AmeriCorps Education Award $5,176.50 upon successful completion of 1200 hours

    of service. This position is not PLC eligible.

    All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
