Assistant Divisional Controller
Sugar MountainJob Details
Job Description
Sugar Mountain is a creative, family-owned food company that is home to extraordinary brands like Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, Mishima Reserve, and The Butcher’s Table. We’re passionate about making real food with absolutely zero artificial ingredients. We’re a team at the forefront of the food revolution, passionate about our mission to Change the Way America Eats. For the past 6 years, we’ve been recognized as a Great Place to Work and we’re proud of the value-driven, mission-forward culture that fuels our growth.
We’re on the hunt for an Assistant Divisional Controller who’s equal parts analytical powerhouse and curious problem-solver — someone who loves digging into the details, asking “why,” and partnering with a fast-moving, collaborative team. If you enjoy a good laugh, thrive in a people-first environment, and don’t mind rolling up your sleeves (sometimes literally), you’re going to fit right in.
We offer a hybrid work model, blending at-home flexibility with in-office connection.:
Responsibilities:
Run point on core accounting functions — period close, journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger management. Shepherd inventory accounting across multiple locations (you know, keeping the chaos organized).
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including COGS, margin analysis, and insights that help guide divisional decisions.
Spot inefficiencies, streamline processes, and help strengthen our systems and controls.
- Build, maintain, and document SOPs and internal controls that would make your auditor proud.
- Support ERP upgrades and new system implementations without losing your sense of humor.
- Assist with internal and external audits and keep us looking sharp.
Partner with cross-functional teams to provide insights that actually mean something.
- Contribute to budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics as our business grows.
Adapt as we scale — new challenges, new opportunities, new ways to make an impact. Jump in wherever needed. “Other duties as assigned” is just another way of saying, “We trust you to help us get it done.”
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. 6–8 years of corporate accounting and financial reporting experience. 3+ years of supervisory or team development experience (preferred but not required). 2–4 years in cost, inventory, or manufacturing accounting (strongly preferred). Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (you know your way around a pivot table).
ERP chops — Great Plains, Business Central/Dynamics, or Inecta is a plus.
Experience in food manufacturing, restaurant, or retail accounting is a bonus.:
Strong understanding of business processes and systems — and how to translate numbers into decisions. Detail-oriented, organized, and able to run with things independently. Able to balance hands-on execution with big-picture thinking.
Experience working across multiple business units and intercompany consolidations.:
A warm, collaborative approach and the ability to build trust across teams, vendors, and customers.
Compensation & Benefits:
The starting salary range for this position is between $115,000 - $125,000 per year, plus an annual bonus plan. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
We offer medical, dental, vision and life insurance premiums, along with paid time-off, paid holidays and a 401(k) plan with a company match. Employees enjoy a 35% employee discount at Sugar Mountain locations.:
Commitment to Our Communities:
Sugar Mountain has created the Beecher's Foundation, a non-profit funded by a portion of sales from companies under the Sugar Mountain umbrella. Aimed at educating people about the prevalence of food additives and their possible health risks, the Foundation is about giving people the tools they need to make healthy eating choices for life.
We are committed to fostering a workplace where individuals of all cultures, genders, ages, sexual orientations, and abilities feel valued, respected, and empowered. Our goal is to build a team that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and creates an environment where everyone belongs. Sugar Mountain is a tobacco- free company.
