JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Camp Counselor – Let’s Innovate supports Let’s Innovate, a technology-based summer camp offered through Camp Carey. Campers explore tools such as Scratch, VEX Robotics, micro:bit, Tinkercad, and other emerging technologies while developing skills in design thinking, collaboration, and innovation. This is an
active, high-energy role that requires strong supervision skills, initiative, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with children and technology. Assistant Camp Counselors
- support hands-on tech activities, ensure camper safety, and foster a positive, inclusive
environment for learners of all skill levels. The Assistant Camp Counselor reports to the Auxiliary Programs Director and works under the guidance of the Lead Counselor. This is a full-time, seasonal position.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
● Assisting the Lead Counselor in facilitating hands-on technology projects and innovation challenges. ● Providing individualized support to campers with varying levels of experience. ● Collaborating with fellow Assistant Counselors to plan and lead outdoor group games. ● Actively supervising and engaging campers throughout the camp day to ensure
their safety, well-being, and enjoyment. Demonstrating strong situational awareness and sound judgment to maintain camper safety. ● Fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment that encourages creativity, risk-taking, and problem-solving. ● Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe camp environment, including activity
areas and equipment. ● Supporting behavior management and conflict resolution in collaboration with the
- Lead Counselor.
● Participating enthusiastically in all camp activities and events, serving as a positive role model. ● Communicating effectively with camp leadership, colleagues, and parents/guardians as appropriate. ● Supporting smooth daily operations through flexibility, responsiveness, and teamwork.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
● Enthusiastic, energetic, and committed to creating a positive camp experience. ● Experience or foundational knowledge of technology, coding platforms, robotics, or digital design tools, or a strong willingness to learn and engage with these tools. ● Strong teamwork, communication skills, and initiative.
● High level of reliability and professionalism, including consistent attendance and punctuality. ● Ability to remain actively engaged throughout a fast-paced, hands-on camp day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Previous experience working with children preferred, but not required. ● Experience with coding, robotics, digital design, or STEM-related activities is a plus, but not required.
DETAILS:
Employment Dates:
● Staff Training: June 16–18, 2026. ● Camp Season: June 22–August 7, 2026 (No camp on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day).
Schedule:
Monday–Friday; Shifts will fall between 7:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., approximately 8 hours per day. This is a seasonal, non-exempt position.
Compensation:
● $20-$25 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
