POSITION TITLE: Day Camp Before & After Care Counselor
LOCATION/DEPT: Oakbrook Terrace Corps
- REPORTS TO: Day Camp Director

PAY GRADE: 201:
PAY RANGE: $16.60 - $20.00
OUTCOMES:
Work under the direction of the Day Camp Director to ensure that the Day Camp is in keeping with the overall plans, goals, and directions of the Corps.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be responsible for supervision and care of youth during extended care
time(s).
- Carry out planned activities as assigned.
- Assist as directed with set-up, sign-in and clean-up.
- Understand that the overall theme of the Day Camp will have a Christian
emphasis.
- Read, sign, and abide by the Safe-From-Harm Policy.
- Attend the orientation prior to the start of Day Camp, debriefing and the
final musical program.
- Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Under the direct supervision of the Day Camp Director. In the absence of the Day Camp Director to be under the supervision of the Assistant Day Camp Director or Youth Development Director.
This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army. In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED certificate required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Experience of working with children preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Understand and uphold that Day Camp overall will have a Christian emphasis.
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
- Attention to detail.
- A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job
situations/priorities.
- A commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.
POSITION LIMITATIONS (What this position must do)
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or
approved.
- This individual will keep the Day Camp Director informed on all critical
issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out
the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to
lift 10 pounds.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position,
the employee is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time; use hands and fingers; communicate; move; occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel, or crouch; frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands, as required in using standard office equipment and PC.
- The work environment for this position includes indoor and outdoor
environments with a low to high noise level.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance
vision, and ability to focus.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner
that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and
supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions:
resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others’ property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
