Position Summary: The Day Camp Counselor position helps create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for children ages 5 – 11. This seasonal role involves supervising campers during daily activities and field trips, leading and participating in planned programs, and ensuring the overall safety and well-being of all participants. - organized, complete required paperwork, and attend staff meetings as scheduled.
A willingness to jump in, lead activities, and support campers throughout the day is essential.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervise an assigned group of youth ages 5-11 on site and on field trips.
- Responsible for the care and well-being of program participants, being aware
of and following all safety precautions and procedures, including administering emergency first aid as needed and recording such treatment with proper documentation.
- Responsible for knowing Safe From Harm program guidelines and following them.
- Responsible for adhering to state childcare licensing guidelines, as
instructed by supervisors.
- Mediate any behavior problems between campers that may arise.
- Responsible for the implementation of program plans as assigned by the
Community Center Director or assigned activity leads.
- Willingness to participate and take a leadership role in all planned
activities such as Bible study, swimming, group games, crafts, and music and more.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all areas and resources used by the
day camp program.
- Conform to the weekly schedule and attend all staff meetings.
- Complete all paperwork and administrative duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma/GED or any equivalent combination of training and
experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Previous experience working with youth
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Ability to lead and participate in group activities
- Ability to complete basic paperwork and documentation accurately
- Ability to model positive behavior
Computer Skills:
- Basic knowledge of computer systems
- Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 (preferred)
Certificates and Licenses:
- Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
- Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30
days
- Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license and pass the
Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR).
