    Job Description

    degree in forestry, agricultural science, rangeland management, environmental science, or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.

    Job Description:

    • Manage forest and overall land quality. Successfully plan and manage prescribed

    burns for the purpose of natural resource enhancement, restoration, fuel reduction, research, and training. Responsibilities include pulling prescribed burn authorizations from the Florida Forest Service, and maintaining credentials as a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager with Florida Forest Service. Attend to

    pre and post fire operational needs, such as preparing fire breaks and burn unit fuel treatments.  Maintain fire equipment and fire cache in ready status;

    • maintain, clean and organize.  Works with Conservation program staff in

    scouting, documenting, and controlling exotic-invasive species. Ensures proper

    • implementation of restoration projects, forestry operations, and other.
    • Responsible for operations management throughout the Hickory Sink forest. This

    includes planning and oversight of contractors responsible for a variety of operations, including tasks such as mowing/chopping/chipping to control hardwoods, herbicide use to manage invasive species, tree planting, and related.  Ability to help with these tasks on a limited basis. Enforces SFFGS and UF policies with forest visitors, including natural resources protection, in

    a tactful manner on the lands comprising the Hickory Sink forest. Prepare purchase requests and work order requests.

    Coordination with researchers, instructors, and the general public on natural resource-related projects, including assisting with planning and logistics for different studies, providing tours that support education efforts, and engaging with stakeholders through outreach programs.  May engage with students on

    specific projects or courses, assist with special outreach projects, assist with critical management needs on other School-managed properties, and related.

    Expected Salary:

    $54,000-$60,000 commensurate with education and experience

    Required Qualifications:

    Doctoral degree in forestry, agricultural science, rangeland management, environmental science, or a closely related field; or a master's degree in forestry, agricultural science, rangeland management, environmental science, or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's

    degree in forestry, agricultural science, rangeland management, environmental science, or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.

    Preferred:

    Certification as a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager with the Florida Forest Service.
