General Summary: Supports the USM Summer Camps Explorer’s Camp mission by planning and leading engaging, hands-on themed activities that meet the diverse needs of campers, in alignment with the camp’s goals. By fostering intellectual curiosity, emotional resilience, social connection, and physical growth, activity instructors guide campers toward reaching their fullest potential. Activity instructors are responsible for leading rotating activity periods in Outdoor Exploration, Arts and Crafts, Sports, and Cooperative Games, creating a well-rounded and memorable camp experience. The application will include written questions focused on the role that will be used to further conversation within the interview process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and conduct engaging and age-appropriate lessons and activities that spark campers' creativity and align with their interests and maturity levels.
- Oversee groups of children during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Collaborate with Explorer’s Camp Head Counselor and Activity Counselors to plan, advise, coordinate logistics, organize supplies, and implement strategies for camper success.
- Proactively manage camper behavior by setting clear expectations and using positive reinforcement to ensure a safe and engaging environment.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages collaboration, active participation, and self-expression among campers.
- Support the camp’s overall goals by contributing to additional tasks as assigned by the Explorer’s Camp Director.
- Promote the camp’s values of teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.
- Helps guide and supervise campers during lunch, keeping the space safe, smooth, and friendly.
- Act as a mentor and resource for counselors, modeling best practices in activity facilitation and camper engagement.
- Be comfortable and prepared to engage in outdoor activities for over 4 hours each camp day.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by camp administration.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, recreation, or related fields is preferred.
- Prior experience working with children in a camp, classroom, or recreational setting is preferred
- CPR/AED Certification (Obtained in Training Week if not previously trained)
