Description:

• Provide direct leadership and supervision to youth.
• Assist in the planning, organization, implementation, and oversight of daily schedule of activities for youth in both indoor and outdoor day camp recreational settings.

Duties: Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned day camp programs and services.

• Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants.
• Implement camp activities in program setting according to established schedule.

Accompany campers on field trips. May transport campers and supplies using a park district vehicle.

• Participate with campers in scheduled daily activities.
• Maintain day camp areas in a clean, organized, and neat manner.
• Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents.

Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.

• Conduct self in accordance with the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
• Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed and serviced provided are implemented in a safe manner.

Qualifications:

Age: 16 years and older.

Education:

Junior in high school or higher grade level. High school diploma preferred. Some college desired.

Experience:

Working with youth. Supervision of groups of youth in a recreational setting preferred. Knowledge: General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field. General knowledge of day camp and after-school programs and services. General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in a recreational environment.

Ability to operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform job assignment. License / Certification: Valid driver’s license required for programs including transportation, preferred if not including transportation. First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year. Conditions of Employment May Include: Provide proof of date of birth.

• Provide a copy of driver's license or photo identification.
• Provide driver's abstract if position duties require driving.

Submit to a reference check and employment verification. Submit to a state criminal background check. Submit to a pre-placement physical and drug screening if position will involve transportation of participants. Submit to reasonable cause and post-accident alcohol and drug testing. Hours: Summer Day Camp Counselors For the following camps: Belvidere Explorers for Ages 6-12: Monday-Friday: 8:45am-4:15pm Before Camp Counselor Hours: Monday-Friday 6:45am-9:00am After Camp Counselor Hours: Monday-Friday 3:45pm-6:15pm Work weekends and holidays as assigned.
