- Assistant Ropes Course Facilitator
Westtown School Summer Camp is seeking an Assistant Ropes Course facilitator to assist with daily programming for our summer camp. Assistant Ropes Course Facilitators must be flexible, fun, work well in a team setting, have solid judgment, and possess excellent technical and safety skills. Facilitators are responsible for promoting self-confidence, positive group dynamics, and the expansion of problem-solving abilities. Candidates must have experience working with children, an ability to read and develop group dynamics, experience with the concept of a Full Value Contract and Challenge By Choice, experience climbing, addressing issues of expanding comfort zones, group organization, and cooperative games. Eligible candidates must be willing to be trained so they are able to pass the Facilitator Skill Assessment or have a current ACCT Level 1 facilitator certification. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be available June 8 - August 7, 2026, 8:30 am - 4:15 pm.
Westtown School Summer Camp is a traditional day camp program serving children ages 4 to 14, located on Westtown School’s 600+ acre campus near West Chester, PA. At Westtown School Summer Camp, discovery and education await every child in a creative, supportive, and inclusive environment rooted in the school’s outdoor education traditions. Camp staff members lead campers in a wide variety of action-based educational projects each day. Our camp programs reflect the highest standards of respect, inclusion, and cooperation between counselors and campers.
Essential Responsibilities
- Maintain a positive culture of teamwork and support with campers and camp staff;
- Adhere to Westtown Ropes Course Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both high and low ropes courses;
- Assist with inspecting gear, including elements, ropes, harnesses, helmets, and hardware, before and after every use of the challenge course element;
- Oversee all climbing activities including spotting, belaying, and climbing to ensure participant safety;
- Ability to perform rescue, if necessary.
Qualifications:
- Ability to perform rescue, if necessary
- 2+ years experience working with children
- Experience with high & low ropes course
