    YMCA of NATRONA COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Lead Summer Camp Counselor

    • Leadership Level: Leader

    FLSA Status: Full time/Seasonal Revision Date: 03/21/2026

    • Reports to: Summer Camp Director

    Primary Function/Department: Youth Development Salary: $12.00-$15.00 per hour

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lead Summer Camp Counselor at YMCA of Natrona County maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

    This position is responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean summer program site; ensuring a high level of program quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all program participants and their families. The Lead Summer Camp Counselor will provide a positive role model to youth within the philosophy of YMCA standards and expectations with an emphasis on youth development and healthy living.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Actively supervises assigned group of children.

    • Participate and encourage participation of all students in daily activities and events.
    • Supports Summer Camp Director in planning and implementation of program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
    • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness.

    Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings and training.

    • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

    Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    At least 18 years of age Ability to work the entire summer, June 1st to August 21st. Previous experience working with children aged 5-12 years, preferably in a day camp setting Ability to supervise and play with children in a pool setting is required Must be willing to work outdoors

    Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games or art:

    • Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours

    Integrity and ability to work independently with attention to detail required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Operation of 12-person passenger van for transportation purposes (18 and older only) Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture training; Child Abuse Prevention Training, BLS CPR/AED/First Aid

    Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check

    WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Indoor/outdoor environment, intermittent sitting, standing, walking, running and water play required.

    Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions required. Stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and talk to hear. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reliable transportation and travel to local events and activities may be required.
