Schedule: 32 hours a week, Tuesday through FridayJob SummaryThe Exhibit Specialist aids in the development, creation, production, and installation of exhibit components and artifacts for the Wildlife Conservation Societyβs Zoos and Aquarium. This position is part of a collaborative team that works closely together. Fine attention to detail, being proactive, multi-tasking, creative problem solving, and good communication skills are all important elements contributing to success in this role. Major Responsibilities- Create exhibits and other objects. Utilize artistic, sculptural, woodworking, mechanical abilities, casting of rubber molds, metal working, electrical, cement, fiberglass, plumbing, and various other skills in order to replicate natural habitats and build exhibits, props, animal enrichment objects, etc., as designed. Solve unique problems. Suggest innovations in construction methods or develop new techniques in order to resolve problems that have no precedent.
- Maintain exhibits. Reconstruct, repair, and preserve artifacts, interactives, sculptures, exhibit materials, or other items which have been damaged by weather conditions and/or are deteriorating because of age, use, normal wear and tear by the public, staff, or animals.
- Paint murals. Accurately mix and match colors for mural restoration and faux patinas.
- Maintain shop spaces. Assist in maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness and orderliness in shop buildings and outdoor spaces.
- Travel, as needed, to other sites to perform exhibit work.
- Perform related tasks and duties as required.
Internal Qualification RequirementsJob Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience in design and fabrication of large and small-scale exhibits. Artistic skills in naturalistic representation preferred.
Minimum 2 years of experience in model making, mold making, casting, and finishing, carpentry, metal work, and proficiency with materials such as acrylic paints, lacquers, stains, and patinas, etc.
College degree in sculpture, painting, scenic design, prop fabrication or related disciplines, or related work experience, with an accompanying portfolio.
