The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Delta Junction!


What you will be doing:

The Program Technician serves as the primary point of contact for the Delta Junction field office and provides the public with information regarding wildlife and fisheries management, policies, and regulations in person or via email and telephone as well as selling licenses and tags and issuing permits. This position is shared with the Division of Sport Fish and provides clerical and technical assistance to management biologists including but not limited to; data entry, hunt monitoring, purchasing, and fieldwork. The incumbent seals animals such as bears, wolves and sheep, maintains equipment and performs basic grounds maintenance (snow shoveling and lawn mowing).

Through interacting with the public, careful tracking of permits, reports, attention to detail, and administrative coordination in the office, the Program Technician works as part of the Delta Junction team and is integral to the success of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s mission

The working conditions you can expect:

This position is at the ADF&G office in Delta Junction, AK on the Richardson highway. The daily work environment involves effective communication and teamwork with coworkers as well as regular use of a computer while assisting the public in person and over the phone at the information desk in the office. Limited fieldwork is required and may involve exposure to animals, biological specimens, inclement weather, firearms, low-level aircraft flight, and travel by boat.

  • This position works a regular 5-day work week (M-F) 8:30-4:30 with 30 min lunch.

  • Requires infrequent travel within the State (normally one trip of up to 3 days).

  • Requires travel in small aircraft and boats and exposure to animals and biological substances (blood, hair, tissues).

We are looking for an individual with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of wildlife and fisheries management, state regulations and procedures to gather, report and summarize data for answering public inquiries and performing biological analysis and reporting.

  • Analytical thinking skills: ability to set priorities for tasks in order of importance and break down complex tasks into manageable parts in a systematic way.

  • Public service skills: addresses customer needs through actively seeking information about the underlying needs of the customer to understand and define the customer's inquiries and requirements, and match those to available services, taking into account available resources and constraints.

  • Communication Skills: ability to consider the audience and nature of the information to make clear oral and written presentations. Ability to clarify and express ideas and facts to educate others on unfamiliar concepts related to the program in an organized, clear and concise manner.

  • Office Technology Skills: skilled in using office technology such as computers, phone systems, printers and keyboarding to develop and communicate information in the appropriate format. Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Special Note:
 A valid driver's license is required.

This position may be in possession of, or have access to, firearms/ammunition.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish, wildlife or habitat resources;
OR
One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures, precedents, and policies in administrative, informative, and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution: 
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
