MAINTENANCE REPAIRER 2 / ROCKEFELLER REFUGE

The position is responsible for maintaining facilities, grounds and equipment throughout the 76,000-acre Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge.  The Rockefeller complex consists of 12 buildings.  Additionally, the Refuge has 15 wetlands management units ranging in size from 80 to over 7,000 acres, 8 large diesel pumps housed in individual sheds, 45 water control structures, 250 miles of levee systems and 24 miles of roads.  Inventory of equipment and expendable materials are valued at $3.7 million and facilities at over $40 million.  The refuge is one of the most important waterfowl wintering areas in the United States. The Refuge functions as a national laboratory for research on marsh management, plant ecology, fisheries, and wildlife.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Job Duties and Other Information

JOB DUTIES

  • The Maintenance Repairer will be responsible for mowing & landscaping grounds and department properties 
  • Repairing walkways
  • Weekly trash collection in public recreational areas
  • Maintenance of workshops, labs, offices, storage buildings, various water vessels, lawnmowers, tractors, engines
  • Minor repair projects that may include basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and mechanical duties

POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS:

Location: This position will be domiciled in Cameron Parish. 
Appointment Type: Job appointment, probational, promotion or detail to special duty.  

If filled as a job appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
